How have you guys with Piers' turbo been mounting the wastegate actuator? I bought one a couple of weeks ago and just getting around to installing it (been sick, bad back, etc. ). Thanks to Shrimpy's post regarding removing the exhaust housing that I found while searching for tips - use the 2 bolts that contact the bearing housing to pry off the exhaust housing - useful tip, so I thought I'd repeat it.

The compressor housing on it doesn't have the piece/extension/etc. molded in to mount the actuator like the stock HX35 housing. And of course, since I re-used the 12cm stock housing, it doesn't have a place to mount a bracket for it like an HX40 does.

Well I wish I knew how to answer this one. But I am so a little confused. When you order a PDR turbo you are getting the compressor side. Of course you can order it with an housing too. The wastegate actuator, I thought, was part of the exhaust housing. Typically the 12's and 14's have wastegates and the 16's dont. If you are using the factory 12cm housing it should have a wastegate on it. The hose from the head on the wastegate attaches to the boost oriface on the compressor just like stock. If you have one of those adjustable orifaces like with the TST kits, and electronic modules, your may need to remove it off the stock turbo and move it to the new one.

I have a PDR turbo, with a 14cm housing and this is how it appears to me. Piers did the install, so I am a little short in the finer details.

Clarification

The wastegate itself is part of the exhaust housing. But it is activated via a metal rod by the actuator. the actuator is the cylinder that the rod comes out of and that the hose from the elbow connects to (which holds a spring loaded diaphragm). What I am asking is where did you mount the actuator - it normally is connected to the compressor housing, but on the turbo I got from Pier, there is no way to mount it to the compressor housing. Does that make any more sense?

TTT, cuz I want to learn something here too. I thought the wastegate, the actuator, rod and all that was attached to the exhaust housing. The only part attached to the compressor was the elbow the hose plugs into.

Slybones,

That's what I'm wondering. On the stock HX-35, it was mounted to the compressor housing. On Piers' turbo, I don't know where it's mounted - may be mounted to the exhaust housing. But I can't see how - without some kind of mounting bracket, which didn't come with the turbo.

I tried e-mailing and calling Piers last night - no answer to either yet. Maybe he wasn't at the shop or is just swamped - I'm sure I'll hear from him in a couple of days.

TXRAM,

Piers has been on the road, to the Texas Rally, Tulare, and a few other stops. He is supposed to be back this week.

Duhhhhh!

Well, if I'd have looked at the pic's of the turbo on Piers' website, I would have noticed that the actuator is mounted to the exhaust housing on his turbo's (can barely see it behind the compressor housing). This is different than most of the current HX-35's that I've seen - like I said, it is mounted to the compressor housing. So I must need a bracket of some sort.

Piers sent me a message - he's gonna take care of me (as always)!

Wastegate

Saw one last night. Looks like it mounts under the exhaust housing perpendicular to the engine and turbo. The actuator is pointing down slightly

towards the right front suspension. There must be threaded holes under the ex. housing to secure the bracket to.
