can anyone tell me exactly what the function of the wastegate is? I have 04. 5 which I believe has an electronicaly controlled wastegate. Any significant differences. While towing it seemed when I would "floor it" I would lose power then backing off of the throttle I could feel the boost coming back. is that normal.

The symptom described in the first post is normal for the 04. 5 from what I can tell.

Mine does it too, part of the electronic control.

A waste gate is a bypass route with a door or gate mechanism located inside the turbine housing of the turbo charger.



The function part.

A waste gate allows exhaust gases to bypass the turbine wheel, keeping the turbine wheel from overspeed conditions.

This also keeps the turbo in its speed efficiency ranges.
