So I went to the Line-X dealer today to have my liner sprayed in. After going over what I wanted done, the kid who will do the spraying jumps in the truck to take it around back to the shop area. When I got back inside, I asked the manager if I could see the shop, and he escorted me back. When we got to the door, the back of my truck was just coming through, and the kid driving had it at a strange angle (not 90 degrees to the door). I thought "hmmm... he's going to come awfully close with that passenger side mirror". Just then, it seemed like life went into slow motion and then it happened: "CRUNCH".

He hits the concrete outer portion of the building with the mirror. He did it at just the right angle so that the mirror didn't just fold out of the way, it got pinned between the truck and the building!

Cracked the housing pretty badly (see pic), and I was afraid maybe the door might be dented (from the crushing force transmitted through the mirror). I looked everything over 35 times including all the door metal and everything, and it appears the damage was confined to just the mirror.

I'm actually amazed at how strong these mirrors are! It sure was a loud crunch, although it might have seemed louder to me than it actually was, since it was my perfect less-than-2-weeks-old truck that was being damaged. It appears the adjustment mechanism still works.

Manager was very apologetic, and called my purchasing dealer for me and told them what happened and that he would pay for it. I made him write on the bill that he damaged the truck, just in case he tried to get "amnesia" on me when it comes time to pay the dealer. I have an appointment for a new mirror installation on Saturday.

It still hurts to see my perfect truck damaged in any way. But I know the feeling will pass. That first bit of damage is always the hardest to get over!:(

just wait...

till the line x guy finds out how much the mirrors are. . up here in canada, they retail for over $400 each plus the cost of installation at over $80 per hour.....

Oo.

They quoted him $264 for the mirror plus $75 to install it. Apparently it was a discount because he's a "dealer" of sorts.

Take my advice: anytime you take the truck anywhere for service and someone else will drive it anywhere, fold those mirrors in! Both of them! I'm going to start doing so whenever I park the thing, no matter where!:{

Duke,

The dealer I used was in Cincinnati, because there are none in Dayton. I PM'd you the rest of the details.

I had some what of the same thing happen to me. I had my satellite radio installed and when the installer was backing my truck out, he forgot to look at the driver side mirror. He hit the wall with such force, it shattered the mirror. What made me realize that something was wrong was when they were all standing around the mirror taking turns looking at it and then looking at me. Thank goodness the dealer had one in stock, they drove down, picked it up and installed it. I was pretty mad at first, but then I thought, hey whats done is done and they said they were going to replace it. I would have been a little bit upset if the dealer did not have one in stock and I would have had to drive around with duct tape on my mirror.

i have damage. someone closed my tailgate and put a palm dent at the top of the tailgate. while at the parking gargage someone dragged their briefcase down the side of my truck. talk about being t-off#@$%! #@$%! #@$%! #@$%! #@$%! #@$%! people have no respect!

Ryan,

I give you credit bud. I would have grabbed the kid by the throat and bounced his head off the side of the building where he hit the mirror. Then I would have gone for the dealer! Where the hell do they hire these Mensa candidates anyway? By the way, can you post some pics of your seat covers and fuel filler guard? P. S - I thought that you decided on a Rhino Liner over Line-X.

My garage gives me about 1" clearance on each side with the 03 duallies. I got in a hurry when my truck was several weeks old and crunched the passenger mirror the same way. We have a great D/C 5 star dealership in our area and they replaced it under warranty. Made me sick to see what I had done.

I left my tailgate down the other day and backed up with the TT attached and turned at a pretty sharp angle. The tailgate hit the jack on the TT tongue. My line-x liner made that same crunchy sound! It didn't sound like metal at all!

I had the same thing happen to me a month ago on the drivers side with less than 500 miles on the truck. I called my 5 star dealer and he said no luck, not under warranty. I then called D/C told them about my problem with my truck and my dealer and they said the same thing, not under warranty, no luck. :-{} I have a family friend buying one for dealers cost, not sure what the price will be, but I'm sure it won't be any cheaper than $300.

Maybe this is a problem that Dodge should be looking into! Seems like this has happened already too many times, especially if it happens to you. You will immediately get this sick feeling in your stomach and then your told how much it will take to fix it. :--)

By the way, I have a drivers side shell that has no real damage to it. The inner mirror material has be removed. If you have damaged the outside of you mirror, but the mirror is not broken let me know. This one is heated and adjustable.

I have a 2003 2500 SLT White Long Box. These mirrors are the long tow with heated and electronic adjustment. They flip out to make them towing mirrors. I love this option, but it has been a costly one.

I had a 2001 2500 SLT White Short Box previously with the heated and electronic adjustable mirrors. Never had any problems getting past the garage opening. The new mirrors are much longer and only clear the garage opening less than a inch on each side. The second time I backed out of my garage, I hit the drivers mirror.
