Sending back my tax refynd

Firehouse

Well, hopefully we all have a better day tomorrow.

On a lighter note, once again intelligence is not very abundant at the service station. I pulled our new motorhome (40' Monaco) into the station and the guy put a gallon and a half of gas in the tank before I caught him. Not a major problem, because it has a 140 gallon tank, but still, what If I went to get a Buritto or something and this guy filled her up.

Amazing!!

real nice.

in oregon, the libs in the govt think you and i are not capable to fill our own tank. min wage workers have more intelligence than us so they passed a law to keep us from filling our own rigs up with fuel.

same thing happened to a friend in pendelton. 30 gals in a 35 gal tank. he didnt notice. play hell with his pump. darn lucky no other damage.

MM,

your kidding right? you cant pump your own fuel? How about truckers, can they?

If they can... maybe you could hit a truck stop to fill up.

Geeze Man, thats terrible. that one got by me, I usually pay attention to that kinda stuff.

Don~

no i am not kidding. the liberals in salem try to dictate what the citizens can do, more and more.

when traveling in oregon, if you try to pump your own fuel, you will be told that there is a big fine for doing so.

as to the truckers, i think they can fill their own, but i was told i cant fill my rig up at the big truck pumps because of the puc tax.

the rv pumps have the tax on the pump price. the comercial pumps dont. in or. , the signs even list puc diesel without tax. you find it is 26 cents higher when you pull in.

its just the libs, wanting more regulations. it raises the price of fuel too having to pay for someone to pump ir for you.

mm

IIRC, the big fine isn't levied on the driver, but on the station for allowing you to fill yourself. Whenever I have to buy fuel down there, I get out and start filling it myself -- an attendant usually comes running over and get pissy with me. I usually dazzle them with my typical banter and wit (learned it from a Master Chief Mechanic some time ago). If they can't be bothered to beat me to the pump, they can KMA.

I use a cardlock station in Oregon so I pump my own fuel all the time. However, before I started using cardlock stations I use to pump my own fuel (diesel) at several stations as I also was told that the no self service law only applied to gasoline.

when i fill up at an or. fuel stop, i usually tell them that i should pump my own fuel because with the flatbed, the fuel inlet doesnt flow good and if it is fed to fast, it will spit back. most of the time, i have no argument from the fuel attendants. i had 1 attendant with a real bad attitude and smart mouth insist on fueling me up without listening to my warning. put it on full blast, and with him standing directly in front of the fuel filler, promptly got drenched with diesel. tried to warn him. he wouldnt listen. the libs in the govt think he is more qualified to fuel my rigs than i am.

i normally plan ahead so not to purchase fuel in or. . higher prices by 15 cents because of the fact of the lack of self service.

So how did this law come to be? My geuss ciggarete smokers were the influence. Do they know that the rest of the 49 states you have self serve. Even in California self serve still exists.

i heard years ago that it was pushed into law by some lazy city slicker libs from the left side of the state because they are too lazy and would rather pay extra than to pump their own.

it was brought up for a vote 10 years ago and the libs voted to retain that law.

the left side votes for more regulation. they also voted for al gore on that side of the state. state is controlled by ignorant liberals who want to control its citizens and visitors in the state anyway it can.

western or. is just like KALIFORNIA. central and eastern or. should be allowed to join with idaho to make 1 big state of right thinking people. let cali have western or. .

My understanding is that the law was enacted when leaded gasoline was still available to keep folks with unleaded rigs from using the cheaper leaded fuel. Why they never got rid of the law is a mystery to me.

When I lived near Salem, OR I was told that it was to create entry level jobs. I had my own service station and hated having to pump everybodys gas. Whats really fun is to have a 6 passenger pickup full of loggers all chewing tabaccy and spittin down the side of the truck pull in, they got to pump there own gas.

illflem

Leaded nozzle wouldnt fit unleaded filler necks. Of course some bozos would use funnel if you let them.

Fill up

The times I have been through OR, I ask the guy to fill it up and they always put an even amount in like 26 Gals. not 26. 8 Gals. I guess chance is doesn't add to the station's profit.

My understanding has been the law in Oregon ONLY applies to gasoline, it does not apply to diesel, no matter what the minimum wagers tell you. Pump your own, tell them to buzz off, and don't worry about it. If they give you crap, tell them to go get a copy of the law and show it to you... ... ... . I rarely have anyone give me crap over it... they are only too happy to have me stand there and deal with the foaming... ... ... ... .

I almost always pump my own. Some stations will tell me, diesel is ok to pump your own. I have a card at a local station that I have to pay the Fire Marshal $2. 50 a month for the privelage of doing it my self. FlyingJ attendants in LaGrande have orders that they are to pump. I still check what they are pumping.

I have been an Oregon resident for 40+ years, and I am still amazed by this law. It has been up for vote several times over the years and is allways retained.

The only explaination I can offer is that the majority of the voters live in the section of Oregon fron Eugene to Portland--that means that small section of Oregon's votes controls,(to the dismay of those of us who live out side that population center) and that geographical area of the state is very liberal and tends to vote just as the media of that area directs.

Oregon is to me a great state to live in ----out side the Eugene -Portland strip. (apology to those who live in that area)

I really don't mind having my fuel pumped for me, but I allways get out and watch and supervise--and let him or her get diesel on their hands. I do however have a card for Pacific Pride commercial outlets and do my own thing there when convenient.

Same in NJ

New Jersey is the same way, all full service for as long as I can remember. No self service, the funny thing is that fuel is still cheaper there then it is here in PA. 15 to 20 cents a gallon cheaper.

Oregon & Diesel

Actually, if you read the law, it says nothing about diesel (or gas for that matter), what it does say is that Class 1 flammable liquids may not be pumped by anyone who is not properly trained.

If you look for the definition of class 1 flammable liquids, you'll find that these are things with a flash point of 25 F or less. Since diesel has a flash point of around 150 F, you are, according to Oregon law, allowed to pump it yourself. Now, trying to convince the pump jockey of this is another matter entirely.

As for why they have the law, besides the usual political speak about safety, you find that some of the reasons are, "the dangers of crime and slick surfaces are enhanced by Oregon's uniquely adverse weather", stuff about health hazards and toxic fumes, discriminating against lower income people because they can't pay the higher price for full serve (so they charge everyone the higher price?), and that "self-service stations contribute to unemployment, especially amongst young people".

Hmm, so it's hazardous to pump gas and breathe the toxic fumes, but we want to make sure the young people can get jobs doing it...
