It has rained pretty hard here last weekend. When I stopped to fill up yesterday, about a tablespoon of rainwater poured out from between the black cover and the white inner part of the cap! I haven't seen this one before. The water just barely missed going into the filler neck.

Be careful when filling after a rain.

I had the same thing happen to me a few weeks ago. If you do a search for the thread tiltle water found a last fuel stop, you can find out what some of the others had to say. I went an extra step and checked the fuel filter for any water but did not find any thankfully. I guess the rain must somehow get into the cap.

water in the fuel cap

i was one posting on the other thread. it is common after you wash the truck or it rains. just be careful taking the cap off. doesn't get in otherwise. i had the same problem on my '98 dakota that i traded for this beast. filled the tank on the SO's infiniti Q45 the otherday after a rain. i wasn't surprised to see water run out of the cap on it. apparently not a feature unique to the dodges.

I had the same problem while washing the truck when it was new. The drain hole on the plastic backing is too high. I carefully drilled two 1/4 inch holes in the black plastic backing on the bottom and haven't had a problem since. If you look at the bottom of the plastic backing you will see a phillips screw. Drill the two holes about a half inch to either side of the screw. This will allow the water to drain faster and not collect. Be careful as you have a metal tab and filler tube behind the plastic. Look up from the bottom behind the fender so you'll know where not to drill. Good luck.
