I just fueled up at the same place I always do and about 5 miles later the water in fuel light comes on, forgive me if I'm wrong but I thought that the WIF sensor was with the filter housing that is not even on the truck. Any help is appreciated as I am not going to start the truck until I know more

You shouldn't have a WIF if its not plugged in. When I removed my stock filter canister... I just let the WIF plug from the engine harness hang there. Cummins Powermaster tech line told me this isn't a problem for the ECM cause it will now "think" there is never any water in the fuel since the circuit is open. I guess that means water completes the circuit and causes the ECM to light up the WIF light. They did however remind me the importance of the WIF sensor for what it does. But I'm using a Stanadyne WIF sensor and I'm not worried about actual water in fuel.

I'd clean that plug you have hanging there incase dirt or moisture has caused some kind of connection there. If the WIF light is actually remaining on... the ECM changes the way the engine runs to help prevent problems... I think

Use some compressed air and blow the plug out real well. It shouldn't be coming on unless. Maybe try taking out your WIF sensor from the old canister and plugging just the sensor back in. Wrap it in elec tape to keep the probes from touching anything. That should definately help cure the light.

That could be the problem, I was out plowing snow all night, when I fueled I also checked the oil and maybe something slid down in the engine compartment and caused it . Thanks, Dean
