Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Water in fuel light, but wait!

Hi all! My water in fuel light came on today for a split second, so I drained the filter a bit, hmmm no water, then I noticed the sensor wire that goes to the filter drain wasn't even connected, what could have caused the light to come on? Short? Should I be worried, bothered or terrified? Thanks

Mine comes on after washing that area of the truck, goes away after a half hour of driving when dry.

Perhaps water splashed up on your connector?
