Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) water in fuel stuck on

Anybody ever come across a water in fuel sensor that is stuck on? I have replaced mine just a year ago and it came on so I tried to drain it. It did not go out. So I replaced it, It still didn't go out. I tried putting a conducting grease in the contact and still no help it stays on. Any ideas other than just unplugging it?

Does it go off when you unplug the WIF sensor cable from the harness? If not you probably have a short somewhere in the cable. Most likely at the connector. Or a problem with the PCM.

All the water in fuel sensor does is ground pin 1 of the PCM through the two pins in the sensor which is normally caused by water in the bottom of the filter. The red wire in the cable comes from the PCM and the black wire goes to ground. If you unplug the sensor, the WIF alarm should go away.

I've got the same issue, unplugged-no light, plug it in the sucker stays on, I also understand that the WIF sensor can be bad out of the box... .

Same here also.

Changed fuel filter and now light stays on.

I have not bought a new one though, to try.
