Filled up yesterday, 12 gallons here in Montana at a station that I always use. Headed back to the RV park, and went thru a rain storm from he!! . On came the water-in-fuel light drain filters. So I stopped , and drained just the front filter started it back up ,still the warning . Shut it off started it back up, the warning goes off. Never came back on the rest of the way ,about 15 miles. Question could that rain storm have anything to do with triggering the water-in-fuel warning, it was quite the downpour for about three or four miles.

The early rear sensors had wire problems at the sensor itself. They would short out in wet weather and turn on the light. Replacement Mopar sensors have upgraded wiring and don’t have this problem.

I wonder why the FIW light went out after draining the fuel filter if it was the wiring to the sensor?

I did change my sensor a couple of weeks ago, just because it was a cheap thing to do. Mine wasn't giving me probs and wasn't looking worn.

I'd put some anti bio in there as a precaution. Just in case some water from the rains got in the tanks at the fuel station

I thought the same thing, warning went away after draining the front filter.

Anti Bio , I’ll have to google that one , thanks

My FIRST question is was there any water in the fuel???

Standing in a rain storm beside the road , I have no idea . I lifted the hood opened the drain for about a minute closed the drain and drove off . Warning went off. It may have been a gremlin , no idea if water drained out or not.

Both filters have a water drain valve and both have water separating function. It is recommended that both be drained when the dash indicator illuminates.

Yes, when the dash illuminated , it said filter ( filters ) , that would mean both filters . I drained the front under the conditions I was in . I am not totally convinced I had water in the fuel, I will drain the rear filter to be save . Haven't driven it since , other then getting back to the RV site.

Could have been just a coincidence , adding fuel , and that rain storm, it was a downpour, could have an issue with the sensor. Been pretty lucky ,never have had water in the fuel in the 21 years with a diesel .

You should have manned up and got under there and did a collection on both!

I could of , I'm sure you would have. I will drain the rear one here at the RV park , you seemed to be so interested I will let you know if there is any water in there, seeing that you seem to be more worried then me

I took a look at those wires , they look okay from a distance laying under there. Will drain the fuel out of it to make sure, and see if it happens again. Those wires are pretty vulnerable , I'm pretty careful with them when I change the filter, but I will get a better look at them to see how they are . Thanks for the pictures. Cummins12V98 should be on here shortly also, thanking you for the large size pictures ;)
