I live in Coarsegold Ca and it is raining. My 91, 5. 9 has been sitting for awhile. I decided to start it up and idle for a minute and the "Water in fuel" light came on. On the bottom of my fuel filter I have to push up to drain the water or so it says. I did this then started my truck and the light is still on. I've done the about 4-5 times now and the light is still on. It runs good but I don't know what else to do. Any suggestions?

It has been a while since I drove a 92 daily but I will give it a shot. On the bottom of the filter there is a 2 wire plug that sometimes gets wet therefore turning on the water in fuel light. You may have to dry this connection or wiring to this plug. Does it run ok?.

I forgot to mention you may want to unplug the water in fuel plug at the bottom of the filter and see if you still have a light.

Hello David, it runs OK, starts Ok but the light is still on. I did disconnect the wire at the fuel filter and the light is still on. Maybe it's a short? Bill

Yes it sounds like the 2 wires are touching each other somewhere. The ones I have seen are usually at the plug you disconnected and the only way I know to isolate is to cut one of them and see if the light goes out. Unless you can trace the wire to find another way of disconnecting. A new plug when replaced usually splices into the existing wires.

water in the fuel

I disconnected the plug at the fuel filter and the light stayed on I went UP to the next plug and disconnected it and the light went out. I think I have a bad plug or 12 volts feeding it from somewhere. any suggestions? bill

The plug that connects to the WIF sensor at the bottom of the fuel filter will collect enough moisture that it will cause the WIF light to stay on. Get some electrical contact cleaner or WD-40 and liberally spray each half of the connector and blow dry with compressed air. This is usually all it takes no fix the constant on WIF light.

I'm not connected there. I disconnected that plug and the light stays on so I went to the next plug in line and disconnected it and the light went OUT. I get some cleaner and clean ALL the plugs. Let you know tomorrow, Bill
