My truck was idling rough, engine would shut down coming up to a light at 30mph or less. Another thing the water in fuel light would come on all the time but draining would produce only a couple of drops. Took fuel filter apart and cleaned bowl and ends of sensor real god but water in fuel light would go on for a couple of miles and then out for awhile. Dealer said only code showing was water in fuel. Said they found contaminated fuel (water and dirt) and would not warranty lift pump, fuel filter assembly, injector pump and injectors. $5500 to repair-service writer suggested it was vandalism and call my insurance agent. This sucks-all fuel that goes into this truck and my others are double filtered with a watersorb filter. Truck has 16,000 miles on it. :{

So they are saying the contaminates got thru the filter to damage the injection pump? And then there was still enough crud going though the injection pump to hurt the injectors??? I can see the lift pump getting hurt and the filter clogging up but I would hope it would have stopped there! Sorry to hear about the bad luck, let us know what happens next.

Sounds like you need to get your last fuel receipt handy and go have a visit with the owner/manager of your last fuel stop.

Good luck... ..... hope everything works out for you.

Greg

The last fuel stop is a 550 gal skid tank in my backyard. Fuel is filtered coming out of the tank (550 gal) as we load it into 100gal truck tanks. Then it is filtered again before it goes in truck tank. Both filters are watersorb filters which have a medium that absorbs water and then does not allow anything past it.

Have you tested the fuel in your skid tank? Have you talked to the folks who sold you the fuel in your skid tank? Is there something wrong with the filters on your skid tank? If the fuel in the skid tank is okay then the contamination occurred to the fuel after it got in your truck.

It seems to me you could value from doing a little more investigation to get to the heart of this matter before reaching any conclusions.

I had the same sort of problem a few years back at my ranch. it seemed that an employee was ****** and filled the tank with water so I had about a 50/50 blend. It took forever to get it all out of my truck but lucky for me, I shut it down within 30 seconde of the light coming on. As for the 550 gallons of crap fuel, well... . all I can say is that alot of friends got their burn piles finished really fast that year. That was a very expensive fuel bill that month :--)
