Couple months ago I noticed I had water in a headlight. The lens is not cracked and no visible signs of breakage of any kind. This truck is a 98. 5 and just turned 50,000 miles. I expect I got this at the car wash. Any ideas? Thank you!

my 95 gasser did this, just on the passenger side though... I took the like completely out and pulled the bulb and drained of water, THEN I used a hair-dryer to rid of moisture in the light and and put clear silicone caulk around the top, sides and bottom seam, didnt collect any water after that.

hope this will solve your problem

I have seen quite a couple of cars do this, I know some guys that have just drilled holes in the bottom of the light to allow it to drain.

had a 97 1500 that this happened too also. Also figured it was from car wash. Could never really find where it was coming from. I drilled a couple of small weep holes in the bottom of the head light assembly to drain off the water when it got in there. No problems for the remainder of my owning the truck after that.

Im in the collision trade & see this often. It doesnt take much of a seal break & moisture will add to water fast. IC SMOKE has the right idea. Reseal the seam after drying, also check the bulb seal. May need to be replaced. No offense guys, but If you choose to drill holes in the bottom of your light, you might as well fill it now with dirt as it wont be long before the reflector is covered in it. ---- Proflow

never had a problem with dirt in my headlights after 4 years on my 97 and I lived on a dirt road that entire time. But the holes I drilled were the smallest bit that I had, just big enough to allow the water to weep out. But that was just MY experience with the problem, most likely a better (the correct) way to fix the problem.

Just my 2 cents

Just fixed mine Thursday. I pulled the headlight off, pulled the bulb out, and filled it with water. This allowed me to see where it was leaking and wash it out good. It was leaking very slightly around where the clear lense is bonded to the reflector. I drained the water and blew it out with compressed air and put a thin film of silicone around the seam. Since then I have driven through a thunderstorm and a car wash and no more water.

Someone had drilled a hole in one of the driving lights on my Sport bumper before I got it and it was filled with dirt like proflow said. It was @1/8" in the very bottom of the lens.
