Headed for the mountains and got hot quickly. I nursed it back downhill, but damage done. :{ :{
I think this has been going this direction for a while now. Hindsight tells me the scum in the radiator and my overheating this summer were due to same issue. Probably why the truck was sold to me in first place... ??...
Oh well... Now the need for advice. . What to do? Where to start?
Before watery oil, truck odometer had 187k miles and was not working = ?? miles. Best guess from carfax data = ~240k. Engine had noticeable blowby that Cummins mechanic friend said was nothing to worrry about. Leaked front and rear main seals and a few other places. Oil pressure 40 high, 25 low hot. I got 16 mpg hwy, ~13 loaded at 75.
Truck smoked on startup and when cold. made haze when cool, no smoke when hot. (Unless I wanted to.
). I was going through a quart of oil every ~300-500 miles. I think it leaked most of that.
My instinct tells me that I probably blew a head gasket and should go through the entire engine at this point. What does all the sagely advice say?
How is this going to be compared to an old gasser engine?
Thanks for all the ideas guys. What do I do??
