2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Water in passenger floorboard

I have been noticing water underneath the carpet on the passenger floorboard of my 95 regular cab. Can't find the leak. Any suggestions?

Check where the a/c condensation drain passes thru the firewall. There is a short rubber tube that is supposed to extend past the firewall. This tube is prone to fall off, allowing water to run back inside the firewall and under the passenger side carpet. I have seen this happen on several trucks. It happened on my '97 and really soaked the carpet before I noticed it. In winter, the a/c still operates when using defrost.

The other common failure that causes this problem is the third brake light. It leaks so the water runs around the rear window and to the floor inside the interior trim. The way the floor is made there is what amounts to a rain gutter around the floor in the back. That causes the floor in the front to get wet while the floor in the rear stays dry.



I've had that problem and the AC drain problem.

my 95 never had the rear window sealed from the factory and after a year of being on the road,the gasket started to leak. We found it at the dealer after I pulled the back wall insallation out and he sprayed the gaskey with a hose

I've had AC drain problem and rear window leak. Turn heat on high and close doors and windows. Next spray soapy water around all window seals and 3rd brake light seal. Watch for bubbles. That's how I found my window leak.

I think it is the A/C drain, as the water was up on the front of the carpet padding when I dried it out Saturday. It wasn't wet towards the seat back of the truck. I didn't look real hard, but could not find the drain. Where exactly is it located.

I pulled the carpet on my 96' Clubcab. Had the wife use low pressure water. This identified multiple leaks. After fixing leaks I used the steam cleaner on the carpet since it was out of the truck. Also added some sound insulation since carpet and seats were out of the truck.

Thr drain is a half inch pipe sticking straight out of the firewall in line with the airfilter and about a foot lower. Put a piece of hose on it and extend down.

Air stream blows the water back into the cab.

I began searching for my leak about a year ago. I took the carpet out and waited for a big thunderstorm. It runs down the from the corner of the rear window, but I understand the third brake light will do that, too.



In the meantime, I found a good deal on a power sliding rear window. I "don't do windows", so I need to take it in to the automotive glass shop for installation. I figure it is worth the $30 or $40 they quoted me to have the pros do it. I'll be sure to tell them about the leak, too, so they can pay extra attention to getting the window sealed. That should leave only the brake light.



And, yes, I am a world-class procrastinator and have been driving for a year with no carpet... But its going in to the glass shop this week. Honest! :-laf At least with no carpet, the water drains and dries quickly



BTW: J. C. Whitney used to carry thick molded rubber flooring that completely replaces the carpet. Does anyone know if they or anyone else still has it to fit a '96 Ram x-cab? The other reason I have not put the carpet back in is that I don't really like carpet in my pickup and would prefer rubber flooring.

I had the SAME problem. Couldn't figure it out for the longest time. Originally I thought it was the AC line or perhapsd coming from the running lights no longer being sealed. Turns out it was the heater core. It was toast, pardon the pun.



When the heater core starts to go it lets coolant into the cab. Once I replaced it all is fine, no leaks, no moisture, and no haze on the inside windows as is caused by coolant.



To replace the heater core on a Dodge you have to remove the dash. Lovely, eh? Frigging pain. Thanks engineering dept at DC!

Taking the dash out is not that hard IF you take the seats and center console out. I've done it a few times without any help. BIG PITA if you leave the seats in.

Had same problem on a 95 Ram 2500 and a 2000 Dakota. Water that gets past the window sal in the passenger door ran down the inside, landed on the door speaker, dripped off the speaker wires up against the inner door panel, dripped off the inner side of the inner door panel to just inside the door sill plate and into the carpet.



Took 2 months of looking at the other posibilities before I found it.

I found that my passenger side floor board was saturated with water today. pulled up the carpet mopped up as much as I could with the shop vac and found that it looks like water is draining just in front of the door between the cab. Like it might be running down the door pillar.

I forced a finger up on the inside of the liner, doesn't feel wet so I'm not sure if it would be the third brake light or not. Will look at the ac condenser. I'm stumped on this one.

I know it sounds strange to think it's the 3rd brake light cause the front floorboard to be wet, but 90% chance that it is.



My 94 and 97 both had water on the passenger floorboard, I pulled the 3rd brake light, and installed a new gasket and added a little sealr to it.



Floors were dry from then on.

After more poking around and finding that the back seat floor board was just as wet as the front I ran a bead of sealant on the bottom of the back window. Took out the third break light and found that the gasket looked like it had shrunk up quit a bit. Cleaned all of the algae growing in it ran a bead of sealant around it as well and replaced it. Looking on the bottom edge of the light there is about an 1/8 in. gap where the light does not quit fit properly. So I ran some more sealant in there and well I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I've had a little heater going now since yesterday carpet padding is almost completely dry. I do think that the third break light is the culprit.

After some rain today I noticed some water drips rolling down the floor pan from up inside the upper corner of the passenger floor board. I took a small mirror and flashlight and could see some water drops coming from what looks like the inside of where the door hinge is welded into to the chassis and right above the hinge is another piece that is welded that water from the outside just runs over it constantly.

I think these weld spots are leaking water though them so once I get them dried out I will seal these as well. THIS has got to be the end of my leaks. I hope :{
