Took the 06 Mega in for some minor things, one being leaky rear wheel seal. So they let me know that there is water in the Diff lube (rear) and its grey. Ok, I think result of the seal. So the "tech" says its likely a result of Us submerging the rear. The truck is new, no boat launchs, no off road. I explain its just on the road, no submerging. He actualy tells me " well its been raining alot lately".

How does one respond? There are a few Dodge dealers in RI, Ive been through most of them, and they all suck about equally. This is a doozy.

Adding Amsoil this week, yup they wanted to charge me for the oil. So be carefull, dont take your Four wheeler out on rainy days, or puddles. Does this mean off road is out of the question?

My Brother thinks it happened when they pushed it over the Rio Grande on the dark of the moon.

The tech is more than likely full of doo doo. The gear oil in these trucks either is gray from the factory or turns that color after a few miles. I've read lots of posts stating that and I just changed mine out at 15,000 miles and it was gray, also.

There is almost always gear marking compound present in the first fill of the gear oil, it turns the oil opaque gray, but this is not the same thing as what water contaminated gear oil looks like. I believe there was even a warranty bulletin a few years back about this to avoid unnecesary replacement of the fluid.

It is the marking compound from the gear set up. Have the dealer call STAR to confirm if they don't believe you.

If the tech knew half of what he is supposed to, he would realize water and oil make a kinda tan, milky concoction, not gray. If they really give you a headache even after showing them the gray fluid post, have them test the oil. My dollar says it comes up "unhydrated"
