It has been a long time since I have posted on the TDR. Well here is the situation.

I was on my way home from work when I noticed that I was not getting any heat in the cab. I looked down and everything was normal. I looked down about a minute or so later and It was getting close to red line so I pulled it over and popped the hood. Touched the radiator and it was cold. I shut the engien down. And got it towed home. It was about 2 and a half gallons low! Got under neith it and noticed oil had come out thru the over flow/breather on the drivers side. I check the oil dip stick and it was over full. I drained the oil and it was real thick. When the oil was almost done draining(like it was bearly dripping) when the water started to come out and it was not alot only like a pee stream. When it stopped i had about a gallon and a half of water come out. I took the head off had it check for cracks was cracked in 10 places. Got new gaskets, head bolts, the whole nine yards. Got it back together she ran great. Drove it to work no problems, on the way home lost heat again got it home and oil was coming out of the overflow/breather. I lost another 2 gallons of water. The oil this time is gray and thick. I pulled the oil cooler off this time and it is out to be checked for leaks. If it is not cracked I am going to put it back together ( hopping it is maybe a oil cooler gasket). If this does not work what else should I check??

I have been looking at the worst( Block being cracked). A local salvage yard has a 12v with 67,xxx on it and they want $1500 for it. It is complete engien.

Any help would be great.

(Sorry so long)

I know how you feel I went through 2 head gaskets and 2 oil coolers and one head, but finally all was good after the second go round, to me it sounds like a cracked block I know thats not what you wanted to hear but after having 10 cracks in the head it doesnt sound good for the block.

$1,500 for a complete engine is a steal. I know of one with over 500,000 miles on it that sold for $2,500. I would be checking that one out ASAP.

I thought that 1500 was a steal. I am thinking of buying it building it up then putting it in my truck. Then selling mine.

I am not really looking forward to the block being cracked. I know the new head is not bad. Everything went together text book. I am crossing my fingers that it is the oil cooler or the gasket.

Thanks

The new head was not cracked, but was it warped?

Did you check the block for warpage?

Maybe a thicker marine gasket could band aid it.

Hows your buddy doing that owes me for a set of tires yet?:)

Sled Puller,

How have you been?? I don't know how he is doing I have not even talk to Don ina long time.

I dont think the new one would be warped the block that could be a good possability. I am still going to buy that other motor and build it. I will give it one more stab with the marine head gasket.

Thanks

Tony
