Lots of water

Yes Turbo you are right, There is lots to learn from the Midwest Super Stock diesel pullers. A good 4 charger 3 stage Hypermax setup can deliver well over 2000 HP from a 436 CI engine!!

I had a old Hyper 436 IH 1086 with the old 3 charger 3 stage on it and it was estimated at 15 to 1700 HP. It was capable of 275 psi manifold, although I never saw more than 225 psi. There is LOTS of heat at those kinds of pressures. I had a 1800psi pressure washer pump belted to the crank. There was a nozzle between each stage of compression and 6 intake port injectors. On a 10 to 15 second pass it would burn near 2 gallons of fuel and use almost 1 gallon of water. Lots of smoke and lots of volume of steam lots of cooling.

LOTS A SOMKE

GONZO

Have you ever herd of "Redline Fever" or "Redline Fever 2" those would be super stock deisel pullers. or how about 'THE SCREAMIN EAGLE" thats a super farm puller. these are tractors i have wrenched on for years now. last winter i built a 1086 for the 7500 open class and was sucessful for most of the year till i twisted a shaft in the pump. time for the good ol' P-pump. :D right now im runnin a 3LM turbo and my water injection system is very primative. It is made from a water pump off a sprayer, a windsheild washer fluid tank from a truck, and some 3/4 braided hose, and a tip off the feild sprayer. in one run i burn about 1/2 gallon of water and between 1 1/2 and 2 gallons of fuel. i'll be leaning more towards the 2 when i get the P pump installed. By the way Gonzo what were you running for a clutch in your 1086? mine is shot after one year of pullin. i didnt have time to put a good one in at the start of the year so i found a new 1466 clutch and used that its slippin pretty bad, it looks like i power out but shes still blowin smoke. What kind of clutch should i buy?

Turbo;

When I had the SS 1086 here I a transmission for it fron Esdon Lehn the owner operator of Red Line 1&2. Is Screaming eagle from Bariveld Wisconsin? I bieleve it is one of the few Magnum tractors that is a Case instead of a IH.

I am using a 12 pad clutch plate and a 15 purple spring pressure plate from Hy Capacity. The 12 pad has been working very well for me the pedal is very hard to push as I do not have a hydraulic assist. I am a Hy Capacity dealer and could have a assembly sent directly to you if you are interested. The other option is a dual disc from Hypermax or Staab however $$$$$$$$$$ by a factor of 4 or so over a good single. If you are running over 4000 rpm you should go to a steel flywheel for safety sake. You may want to double up the hold down clamps on your 3-LM compressor. As you get up there in boost they can blow off the compressor housing= bad deal.

Yes that was the original home of the eagle now it calls home Buffalo, MN. and is operated by Bill Deluge. what was the name of your tractor in the ss class? my 3 LM turbo isnt going anywhere bill helped me with that one. could you give me a price on a good clutch that you would supply?

Clutch

Our tractor origanally came from somewhere by Green Bay Wisconsin. I cannot remember the name of the original owner, It then went to Tulare California where it pulled as Sudden Impace by a Gene Cope. He had some ltransmission problems and parked it in the weeds for a number of years and sold it to us. We named it Puff and pulled it for almost two years. It is now in Missouri pulling as the Undertaker by a Tim Geiseker. I sure miss the pulling in the midwest (almost enough to move back to Wisconsin) I hope to make the trip to Tomah sometime soon.

I could get you a clutch sent to you. The 12 pad puller clutch disk is $264. 00 and the Pressure plate assembly runs $152. 33.

There will be shipping on that but I would not know how much untell I call in the order with your zip# I would $50+ range would do it

Methanol

Yes Methinol and water would work on your tractor. I am using a 12v Pump Tec 220 psi sprayer pump and 3 ether injection nozzles 1 at the turbo face and 2 on the crossover pipe. I have a hobbs switch in the manifild that is set to turn the pump on at 20 psi manifold pressure under a load. I static set it so at 2200 rpm no load the engine starts to smoke white and miss a bit. It will burn about 2 cups of alky on a 20 second pass. I pull in 2nd high TA ahead on 24. 5X32s at 12000# power has not been a issue to date. I did hole a piston on my last pull of the season and that may have been due to 100% Methanol and no water. Next year I am going to cut the mix at least 25% water. A guess is that there is 100 to 150 hp added with the alky water in the intake.

Mine had rased the manifold pressure about 10 psi when the water alky is on (goes from 35-38 w/o to 47-49 pump on) I have not been able to watch pyrometer tempertures while pulling but it seems to drop 200 degrees out of it under intermittent load.

Make sure your local club will let you run Methanol some of the associations have banned it. I know NTPA and ATPA have both banned alcohol in diesels.

You bet it would, the methanol would give you some power boost. Water probably wouldnt be needed as your EGT's probably arent an issue if you are stock. Snow Performance actually makes a kit that is a little lighter for those lower on the HP level. Man, I cant wait for the B-Day (jan. 2nd. ) I have snow performance linked on the favorites folder to the wifes computer. Oo. :D

The clutch I am using is a Single disk. It is good to about 650 hp. I do not have a line on a twin disk unit, try Staab engeneering or Hypermax.

Thanks i'll get back to you on that one. i'm just kind of wishy washy on the single disk clutch, i've seen some high buck "High HP" clutchs blow on the first run. The sad part was is that it was on a 460 IH deisel, the only catch was that the 460 puts out over 700 ponys. impressive huh? well ill get back to you.

Thanks
