My water pump blew up (dumped all the coolant on the highway and had to be towed to the shop) N/b I75 in Macon GA driving from FLA to MICH this summer. I had about 96k when it went, was able to get over quick so no other damage to engine. Got 100k now.

Never had any weeping from the weep hole, just went out of the blue.

My A/C still blows nice and cold (just jinx myself probably).

Truck is a 01. 5 and i am the original owner.

Waterpump started weeping at 220k, foolish me I only replaced the pump. Serpentine belt idler bearing went out about 10k later. Do both if you do one.

AC still fine at 250k.

Water pump slightly weaping out the hole and got replaced at 230K, Starter contacts clicking at 243K and got rebuilt (grease in the grear drive was dry also). Alt still working at 244K but may do a rebuild as a PM. AC still working but does not get used hard. I take my starters & alt's to a local rebuilder, not a over the counter swap.

Replaced the evaporator core this spring 190K miles, had the heater core replaced at the same time since they were already in there. The original AC compressor and water pump are still running fine at 210K.

A few posts back someone said they will only buy their parts from Cummins, I second that. After trying some aftermarket thermostats I found that the OEM model from Cummins works the best. The costs are higher but over the long run the parts seem to last longer.

I replaced the original water pump this summer (leaking from weep hole) at 232K. All original AC components are still intact and fully functional at 233K. However, there is a very small freaon leak somewhere but adding 1 can of Freon each season works great! I just recently replaced the alternator.

at 8 years and 96000 replacing the water pump and all hoses while im doing the radiator out degreasing, and killer dowl pin repair before its tooo late,,maybe a little early on the water pump,,but its all apart,,figured ide do it,,

Water pump on my 06 (since sold) went at about 60k. Bought one locally for about $45

and did it myself. VERY easy. Took less than 90 minutes including replacing the coolant.

Coulda done it in 45 if I hurried and knew what to do already. Vacuum pump went at about the same time.

Original WP @ 246K. Just replaced A/C compressor @ 245. Second on the aftermarket parts. My original fan clutch went out @230K, put in an OReillys it lasted a year, went back with a Cummins one. You can actually see a visual difference

I have 190k on my 1999 truck, same water pump and a/c unit. A/c gets down to 42 degree. . just right for me. Same for our 1998 12v truck with 291,000 miles.
As far as prices: example-MAP sensor-Advance Auto $90. 00, NAPA $120. 00, Cummings and Geno's $62. 00. Your best bet is to use Cummings parts, their cheaper and factory parts. Forget the dealer!
