Water Pump Problem

I developed a water pump coolant leak on my 2008 at approximately 40,000 and had the pump replaced. Just 9 months later at approximately 58,000 this one developed a coolant leak and had it replaced today. Has anyone else had a similar problem?

I've got an 08 5500, with 120K miles and it runs great... I've not read of a water pump problem here.....

seems like the factory went cheap on the waterpumps Geno's has a Gate's pump at a great price and it seems to be much better built, larger shafts and bearings and seals. The Impeller was slightly larger also. I installed one at 100,000 miles and it's been good so far 25,000 later.

My truck went in on a wrecker for the 4 time in its short life, aparently the substandard factory Mopar water pump cant stand any water with suspended dirt particles on it, this truck locked up the water pump on a very dangerous narrow road and forced us to ditch it and sit in the barditch while waiting on the wrecker to come get it, the bill for the haul in and new pump and install was $600, of course every time this happens it toss's the belt, wraps around the sensor and drives up the cost to repair it. These trucks could not have been tested in muddy farm and ranch roads in deep south texas where they were sold, the mechanic at the ASI certifed told me he loves all the air compessor clutch failures and water pumps jobs every time it rains down here. Another bad thing about the trucks mudding problem is the wheels do not clean out, if you drive thru mud you better go straight to a power washer and lay in the wet car wash bay and spray the oppiste side from the inside to try to force the mud and small roxs leaves twings that trap debis inside the chrome part of the wheel, going to replace those wheels with something that will clean out. I have 3 5. 9 cummins and never had a water failure in over 500,000 miles!!!!!! This truck has a water pump problem in south texas as well as the drivesahft failing and not being rebiildable as well, i never buy another diesel 6. 7 !!!!!

They rebuild those driveshafts here in Tulsa, Had mine done with all new u-joints and carrier bearing... less than $ 300. 00

The oldest driveshaft rebuilder for the oilfeild and hot shots in Corpus Christi Texas wont touch them because they have so many that wont rebuild or they get returns from out of balance, they just say buy a new one until the aftermarket designs something better, I did talk to the guy actually rebuilds them and he said if i brought it by he could tell if it would rebuild, i took mine by and it failed, it still is good for a spare as the sorry *** suport that dodge trucks gives south texas made me drive around with no front driveshaft for days while the dealer got one in, these trucks suck for service and parts down here since they closed all of the dealerships. I called the only driveable dealerships and they were all backordered nationally, the dealer found one out of this area and got it shipped in on my dime, give me a break Dodge!!!

There was a post on coolant bypass filter systems for the cummins motor just recently. You might want to search through the threads. Apparently grit from the cylinder wall outside castings is sloughing off secondary to the acidtic action of the coolant properties and this is causing abrasion type wear on the cylinder, seals and other important parts of the water pump causing them to leak and fail. Most highway versions of the 6. 7 have this coolant bypass filter. You might want to check that post out as this may be an option to insure no future failures. I am considering it myself with 52,000 on my odometer.
