Just saw on NBC news that FCA is recalling 1500 and HD trucks for a water pump problem starting with 2013's. I didn't catch the end date. Lester Holt said the info is posted on their web site.

Edit: Couldn't find it on NBC's site, but Google is your friend. It is apparently not for 1500s. I must have misunderstood.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is recalling almost half a million medium- and heavy-duty Ram trucks over a water pump issue that could potentially cause a fire.

The company said it is not aware of any injuries or accidents related to the issue, which affects 2013-17 Ram 2500 and 3500 pickups and 3500, 4500 and 5500 chassis cabs. The recall is limited to trucks with 6.7-liter engines, the company said in a news release, noting that it no longer equips vehicles with that water pump.

Hmm interesting.. I have 48k on my 16 now, and seeing as how I lost a water pump on my 2010 at 60k, then 122k (traded at 172), this might just come in handy! lol

im thinkin its gonna be quite a long time before the actual parts are in stock though..

I lost my pump at 40,000. It froze up solid. Threw the belt. Lost power steering. Have you ever tried to steer one of these trucks without power steering? Thirty minutes earlier I was on I-10 at about 65 mph towing 9000#.

I understand these trucks have a history of water pump problems. Maybe they finally have a fix.

No recalls issued for my Vin# on the Ram website. Maybe their web isn't updated yet?

Just great...
One more #$%&* to think about when towing out in the middle of nowhere.

And I was stupid enough to think that I finally had every recall done and I had a solid truck!

Could that recall be for that "V" pipe that's giving problems to the cooling system? The description could be generic from the Media.

Sure hope so. I've heard enough about the V pipe breaking due to poor design to get a little worried. I'm hoping that the recall includes some redesign that takes care of other known problems.

I was driving down the road with my low mileage 2013 3500 Longhorn Lariat... and lost power steering... pulling over and lifting the hood I had water pouring out of the front of the engine... of course what had happened is that in a heart beat, the front bearing seized, and snapped the shaft... front pulley dropped down and stopped before dropping to the ground,. ruined the belt, and of course had to have both the truck and RV towed... Chrysler and the local dealer were no help, and really didn't seem to care... the Dealer was 3 weeks behind and didn't care that I was passing through and had just had the truck and RV towed 75 miles... so I paid those bills out of my pocket, and knew from looking at the front of the OLD water pump that it was a failure.... I dropped it in a bag, and have it saved with the bills... close to $800.00 with the tow...

So today, after getting a email from another web site I dropped by a dealer... the Dealer had NO CLUE of the PROBLEM and no information as to which trucks were in the recall...

I can only assume that if the shaft snaps and the pulley bounces around more damage could occur and cause damage that might start a fire...

Of course just my thoughts...

Jelag, Good call on keeping the old parts. When my 95 Ram was out of warranty, I had the ignition key switch fail. I kept the old part and receipt and sure enough a year or two later there was a recall on the switch and I was able to get a full refund from Chrysler.
