Has any one had a water pump go bad on their truck? My pump started leaking today, so I Purchased a pump from Auto zone and will install tonight. Any thoughts as to why it went bad at approx 78,000mi, never been overheated. Also any tips on R/R of pump? Thanks Ray

That should be covered under warranty.

As to the failure, there are instances that sometimes the block isn't cleaned of the casting sand very well. The sand cuts the seals up and it will leak. Personally, I think a water filter should be standard equipment.

Water pumps are rare on these engines BUT does happen once in a while. As far as water pumps go R&R is pretty easy and simple.

Well I R&R the pump last tue. and it was a very easy job about 20 min all together. When I looked at the old pump I noticed the bearing and seal retainer had ben blown from the casting outward in the direction of the impeller. Upon close examination I found the vent to be full of a sand like substance. It was either casting sand or road debris, I tend to keep a very clean engine so I think it was from mfg. What do yall think?
