"95 Dodge" Cummins engine. How many miles can you get out of your water pump?

With 210. 000 miles on the engine, I'm thinking about replacing all the coolant and

intercooler hoses. And maybe looking into replacing the water pump, while I have it down.

Be on the safe side, could save me a lot of work later on!

I priced a water pump around $220. 00 ?

I pulled my water pump at 204,000 when i did the dowel pin. it was fine, had no buildup and no leaks. just bought a new rubber gasket seal and stuck it back on. saw the pumps on ebay for alot cheaper than 220. 00( brand new). might wanna check. ordered the new intercooler hose deluxe kit from piers(4 new hoses and clamps).
 
I replaced my water pump when I did the killer dowel pin and front crank seal. It was wet around the weep hole and was easy to get to. I bought a new water pump at NAPA for somewhere around $65-75.
 
Replaced my 12V waterpump near 140k. I remember paying somewhere around $60-$70. Sold the truck at 202k with no problems.
 
My first water pump gave up at 156k, it's replacement has lasted 259k so far. It's an easy fix when they do go bad, serpentine belt and two bolts.
 
My waterpump developed a weep at 75K. I bought a replacement through www.rockauto.com They were the least expensive I could find on a name brand pump. We also get a 5% discount using TURBODIESEL as the code...

She laid down today. :( 235K miles.



I saw what I thought was water dripping from my A/C, just a little too far forward. Figured out it was coolant but everything looked good. Started her up and it was drooling coolant out of the weep hole.



Pretty simple job. Drain the coolant, take the belt off the alternator, idler, and water pump. Unbolt the 2 bolts with a 13mm socket and remove the old pump. Clean up your sealing surface, install new water pump, and refill the cooling system. Good deal. :D

LOL, mine gave up two months and 14,700 miles after I posted. Still, 274k isn't bad. I changed it a Cummins parking lot in Ill.
 
KB0OU did you cross some wrenches or sumptin after saying that—cause you KNOW it will let loose tomorra (hope not). Seriously though, I am also still on my original at about 240K—but planning to change it. I believe our pumps last so long cause Cummins got it right. I was taught most gasser water pumps fail after the fan clutch acts up and the resulting torque load pummels the seals—because they share the same shaft!!. If our fan clutches mutiny the belt sits between them and the water pump and probably takes the shock off the pump.

After I said that I went out and lubed my u-joints, checked the trans case, and both differentials! A little TLC might keep the gremlins away. I do want to put the wheel bearing kit on it, I am still on the original ball joints and brake disks. So, those will be changed when I put the kit on.
