I have a 2001, 4X4, Auto, with 920 mi. The other day I lifted the lever on the Water Separator to purge whatever, if any, water was in the system. Really, I just wanted to see what would happen.
The way I read the Owners Manual, it seems like I should have seen a stream of gas shoot out and down the waste tube. The reason I thought this, was because the manual said, "don't hold the valve open too long or you may purge the fuel from the system", requiring a procedure to get the fuel back in the fuel lines. Seemed like an easy process but I didn't want to deal with it.
When I lifted the lever, nothing really happened.
I lifted the lever, a few dribbles of, I guess water, came out and nothing more. I did this about three times, thinking I must be doing something wrong. I never did see any gas shoot out.
I read here, be careful where you do this as it really creates a mess.
Is something wrong? Should gas/water have expelled itself from the fuel system?
How often should I attempt to purge water from the system? Everytime I fuel up?
