How often should you drain your water separator? have '08 stock fuel filter no fass or air dog.

Way back after I bought the truck, was told by a dodge diesel tech to drain it weekly - hopefully he said that only to emphasize its importance. Others say don't bother unless the warning light comes on. Currently I try to do it approximately every 3 tankfuls.

I only do it when the light comes on or when it is time to change it. I have only seen the light once, that was on my 05. Never have on my 08 or 10.

i live in a dry area some of our trucks has at or over a 1,000,000 on them. i do not think any of them have ever been drained

I drain mine when I change the fuel filter every 10K miles. I have found that by regular use and by buying fuel from a high volume dealer water will not show up in the fuel. I also keep the tank as full as possible so moisture will not form do to condensation in the tank from changing weather conditions.

Now if your fuel is stored in an above ground tank than I would drain weekly or maybe even daily. This type of storage system will forum moisture easier than the below ground storage system for fuel.

do not change your filter until the pressure drops to about 2 lbs under load. this is the point where it filters it's best. you are throwing away a better filter than you are putting on.

Never have any water in mine. But I run my fuel through the transfer tank which has a water absorbing filter on it.
