water seperator

I just had the injectors replaced in my 06 and the guy working on it said I should invest in a water seperator to save my injectors. Is this true? And what is a good one that is REALLY easy to install and affordable. This truck is toatally stock. Thanks Monty Pack

Welcome to TDR Monty. Don't worry, there will be plenty of suggestions to follow. When I had my 03, I used the Fass pump which had the water separator filter on it. Racor makes small units that will effectively take out any water that crops up. If that's too expensive, there are many effective water absorbing filters on the market also. I use the dumb approach by putting all my fuel in the transfer tank and it pumps through a water block filter when I fill the truck tank. Plus the 08 has a water drain on the stock filter.

I've never found anything in the existing WS so I can't see the need for another one but a good 2 micron filter is a good investment.

All the stock fuel filters on the Dodges are water seperators and have been since 1989. Make sure you change it at least every second oil change or better yet every time. Don't buy fuel from the local "gas station" and never take "free fuel" from a barrel. Always buy from a truck stop where they go through lots of fuel. There are lots of options if you want to add an extra filter. I have the Air Dog setup. Shad

The filter in the OE cannioster is very good at water seperation, but, you need to check it periodically and drain it or it won't help. There is a handy valve and extension tube to make the draining\checking easier.



If you need more Water seperation there are kits that add a Baldwin filter between the tank and stock filter to help. You can even ge tthem with an extra fuel heater in it.



In addition the 3 um filter between the CP-3 and stock cannister is a great addition and will help save your injectors even more than another water seperator.

I add Howes fuel treatment in the Winter & Lucas in the Summer. So far @ 191K miles all over, no (apparent) problems.

Reading this post made me get off my BUTT and install a fuel filter/water Sep. on my Inter-trash-inol . I really like these we had them on our trucks at work and after the shop installed them it seemed like we had to drain them more than what was on the truck before using the same fuel source

They make a shorter version of that style of filter and I thought about mounting one on my 03, but where? You need room to remove the filter from the top and as the filter gets "dirty" and restriction gets more the level in the filter climbs higher so it's easy to know when to change. There are also different elements that can be used for different filtration levels. Shad
