Water spots after washing?

After washing and towel drying my 600 I've always got waterspots on the painted surfaces. Can't see them unless I'm looking down the side of the truck but it really bugs me cuz I know they're there. I always drive the truck into the garage after washing to get it out of the sun before drying.



Truck is Atlantic Blue, maybe should have gotten another white one like the ol' 99 CTD.



Any suggestions? Any special car wash soap/solution I should be using?

I have the same problem with Deep Molten Red. My 01. 5 Atlantic Blue was not as bad as the red. The darker the color, the worst the problem.

Just gave mine a good coat of wax last weekend. That solved that problem with an hour of labor. . Truck looks great and the water runs off like a slick turd!

Try the mister clean auto dry I use it on my black truck in the sun and not a spot on it.

You have hard water like we do here. If you could treat the water to get the minerals out (that is what is left behind leaving the spot) it would not happen. I have always wanted to do that here. That's what a mr clean kit is, none other then a water softener.

I have an atlantic blue 2004 and the mrcleanautodry works. No spots but it does say use it in shade not sunlight.

I always get water spots on the windsheild. I dry it as soon as possible and still get them... ?

I also have Atlantic Blue and before this truck a Patiot Blue (will never buy one that dark again, beautiful but to hard to keep clean). I have a water softner for the house and plumbed a water line into the garage and use it to wash the vehicles. This helps considerably. Glad to here the Mr. Clean system works, I have been hesitant to buy it.

Probably not a widespread solution, but locally we have a carwash that gives "unlimited" wash time for $4 - they have what they call a "spot-free" rinse that I pretty much figured was all hype - but I tried it, and for the first time ever, my truck came out absolutely spot-free - paint, windows, EVERYTHING!

$4 for unlimited wash time, wished we had that here,it costs me about $7 to wash mine, and they say the cost of living is higher in Californy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, they qualify "unlimited" as "up to 20 minutes" - but that is long enough for washing/waxing the whole truck and as much of the undercarriage as I can reach - then the no-spot rinse...

You can get rid of hard water spots by using distilled white viniger and a paper towel. I have to use it every time I wash my truck. I have it in a spray bottle..... I use it before windex on the windshield and before I dry the rig. Very cheap fix. Mike

mothers sells a "quick detail" spray that you use after you wash your truck inbetween wax jobs. thats always worked for me.

I use ZIP WASH by TURTLE found at Walmart.



Comes in a gallon jug and is inexpensive. I usually

don't even wipe it off after rinsing with a hose.



Similar to the old Turtle wash 'n wax but much better.



'Course I do have a white truck but I tried it on my

Harley (black and white) and didn't see any spots.



We *do* have problems with water spots here too,

thought it was salt but maybe it is minerals as mentioned above.

My 99 in metallic red had water spots all over it that I could never get rid of, even when I waxed, you only saw them when you got really close to the paint. My Durango is the same exact color as that truck and no matter what you do there are always water spots on it, looks almost like they are etched into the paint for good. A detailing shop once told me its from the rain and the pollution and if you dont wash those rain spots off within a few days they stay there and just get worse and worse. This would explain why the durango is so bad. I have very hard water at my house from our well and no softner but so far with My new truck which is Patriot Blue I see no spots. Drying it in the shade and out of the sun is really important, I also use Eagle Ones wax and dry and that seems to do a fantastic job, leaves the paint really smooth too.

Ihave used lime away on my old truck to remove an extreme case of waterspots and it works wonderfully. I ont know if there are any long term effects on the paint though since I sold it for my current truck about 6 months later. It also works great for cleaning the black plastic running boards and stuff that get that grey tint. It is actually hard water stains. I was sure to wash my truck well and wax after using lime away. I might try it again. If you guys do it and it messes somthing up dont blame me though ok. I have water spots again that Im thinking about doing it to. especcially on windows.
