Water Temp Gauge Install

For those of you that have an aftermarket temp gauge, where are you tapping into? I plan to install a Autometer electric temp gauge and am looking for the best place to install the sensor. Thanks in advance.

On my 01 i pulled one of the plugs in the head above the exhaust manifold at the back of the head,put a old Kevlar spark plug boot around the wire/sensor to protect from the heat off the manifold---been good for a few years now. It runs about +20 hotter at the back than the stock gauge. DW

pipe plug on the head towards the rear of the engine [5-6 area] is a good idea. . good to see what the hottest temperatures are
