Water Temp Gauge

[PUMPERDUDE]

My gauge has always swept back and forth from 140-190. I've grown used to that. It does hold steady under a good load at about 180. Recently one day it just stayed right at 140 and barely moved for an hour or so. Had me wondering if it was working at all. [it was'nt a cold day]. Think this could indicate a problem to come?T-stat or bad sender/gauge?Now its back to its normal sweep. What Yall think?

My 97 does the same thing. Asked in here as well as dealer. Its normal for older trucks. Cummins has a revised thermostat you can update to, if its annoying.

I was going to wait until I do my next cooling flush and do it them. Gonna live with it until then.

PUMPERDUDE:

I had a similar problem with my gauge and
ended up having the gauge replaced under
warranty. Since then I have had no more
problems with "fluctuation. "

PUMPERDUDE,
The swinging back and forth is normal but staying at 140 for and hour is not.
Your thermostat could of stuck open but I think more likely temp sensor or related wiring/connectors are at fault.
