Yeah, that's the response I got from GV, too... . until the unit puked in my wife's truck at around 70k. I talked to them, and had to take it to Ray's Transmission in Fort Worth, the nearest dealer. They said it was run low on oil (3 months later!!)... . which didn't happen. I ate that one and replaced it, just as it would have cost as much redoing the driveline as what the unit cost. With fuel at $4, it's beneficial to have it, but if it pukes again, it's gone..... Guess I'll find out!!! It's getting close to 50k on this unit, and almost 30k on the one in Dad's. My wife's is all stock, but my Dad's truck will run close to 38psi boost, so we'll see how well it hold's up to a load!!! Not confident in it at all.....

Although this is turbing into a GV thread now, Apparently the GV u it's can handle something stupid like 3000 hp as they are used in pro stock drag racing as well.

More BS on that. AFAIK, pro stock cars are limited to run the liberty 5 speed manual.

Anyway, engaging and OD when the car is already running 150 mph and 10k rpms is a bit different than the TQ generated moving a 20k load from a stop. Not to mention that 2000 lb car isn't much heavier than our engine alone. :-laf

Even thought the GV is only used at ropad speed they just don't handle towing weight too well.

I think the pro-stock he's referring to are the NHRA Top Fuel dragsters... ... . and they usually run a powerglide two speed..... The GV is engaged like a planetary gear, the basis of it's principle operation... . kinda like how 4-low engages in our NP transfer cases..... and if you have a GV sponsorship, you don't have to pay for 'em.....

Their design is a good design, but has problems when you put 500+ ftlbs of torque through them for hours on end. Not gud. Not goooooood. AND no volume of oil to help keep cool... . just some flunky heat sinks on the bottom... .

I thnik somebody was pullin' your leg and seeing if you bought it. :-laf

Well, they certainly are proud of it behind the powerglide in Jim Luttrell's Super Eliminator car... ... Gear Vendors Under/Overdrive Racing Applications auxiliary transmissions.

I did happen to notice the power graphs they give for the Dodges are 450ftlbs or torque and 235hp... . they're not up to date... .

OK, so I got the HP number wrong but it is apparently run. Phew. Was thinking I was passing out bad info! Seems only half wrong! :-laf

The first gen trucks are simpler ,better looking and all around better trucks than the later trucks were.

Interesting looking mirrors. Kinda like California Mirrors, but the power mirror lower mounts.

I have a hard time spending within $5000 of new price for a truck that is almost 20 years old. I really don't understand why a first gen brings more money then a 2nd gen does when for sale. I know why I like first gens, but really, why higher price then a second gen?

Simpler, yes. Better looking? That one's really subjective. But I will add that the 1st gens are not nearly as comfortable to drive as the 2nd gens. Driving my father's 1990 dually 5 speed, you felt like you were reaching for the passenger window whenever you shifted into 5th. The great thing about the 1st gen is that body style was made for 50 years (exaggeration of course) so there are lots of cheap parts available for them.

Maybe I am just young and dumb, but I far more enjoy driving the 1990 vs the Mega. Just saying. :D

I would enjoy the 93 more if it was a stick, but my mega has the handshaker and an exhaust brake. Even though it has a clutch, I don't use it very often.
It's kind of ironic. I prefer a truck with a clutch, just so I don't have to use it...

You say that now... but seriously if the Stick shift in the '90 didn't make you reach so darn far over to the right when going into 5th, it may have been better. I just remember the night and day difference when I bought my 95 brand new.

I just took a torch to mine and easily bent it by hand where I wanted it. It was a 5 min mod that made a big difference!
