TDR Saves Me Lots Of Money

The Mrs and I just got back from our 101 days on the road travelling across Canada right through to Newfoundland. Had a good trip with no problems other than the headlight daylight running module and again I have to thank the TDR and the members that replied to help out, in particular GM McLean. We put a total of 22510 KLMs or 13987. 40 miles on. We used 4272. 65 litres of fuel or 939. 87 imperial gals for an average of 14. 88 mpg. Quite satisfied with that. Saw lots of interesting rigs and some that shouldn't have been on the road. Had hoped to have encounted some of the competition on a hill somewhere along the way but it never happened. Hard to believe you can travel that far and not encounter somebody to play with:)

What I did discover about my mods is that I need some more :--) I find that on the long steep hills that I have more pedal left but the egts are holding me back. going to have to do something about that! Anyway, its good to get back and have easy access to the tdr site again.

Wow! 14,000 miles. That's what I call a trip. I plan to make a trip like that through Canada someday. Hope you had fun and enjoyed it.

WELCOME BACK!!!!!

WELCOME BACK LEON!!!!!

Man! 14K miles! That is a trip worthy of the mighty Cummins! How did it do? Any truck/trailer probs?

And 14. 8mpg!?!!? What is your CGVW? Must be light, like somewhere near 14 or 15k-lbs?

My CGVW of 20,660lbs only returns 11. 2 for a trip average. Nothing wrong with that for that weight!

Just wonderin' what kind of rig you have to spend 101 days in it. Must be a great trailer!

Again, Welcome Back!

I think Leon quoted his mileage in Imperial gallans which is 160 ounces. A US gallon is 128 ounces. So that works out to somewhere around 11. 5 to 12 miles to the US gallon. I think. Too early to do much math. ;) Pretty consistent with my rig which grosses out at 19,000 pounds with the fiver on.

LEON - I'm jealous. I would love to make that trip. We made the trip from Vancouver to Waterton Lakes National Park via the Trans-Canada Highway years ago. What beautiful country! Went up to Jasper last year. What route did you take? Did you go and come back the same route? TDR withdrawals - that's great.

RAMalama - The trailer is a Travellaire bumper pull type that is a nice tow. Probably total unit weight of around 13,000 lbs. I am sure that I would have gotten better mileage if I had of kept off the go pedal some. Usually travelled about 10klms over the limit and I notice that when doing 65 to 70 mph plus that the boost is considerably higher than at slower speed:D

that always equates to more fuel consumption.

RadDodge - We tried to stay off the freeways. You don't get to see the small towns that way and we wanted to stay clear of the large centres. We took the southern route through BC (crowsnest Pass) and stayed south through Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Crossed through the US for about 45 minutes and back into Ontario at Rainy River then on to Thunder Bay, over to Manitoulin Island and took the ferry across to the Bruce Penninsula. Criss-crossed ontario and then through Quebec along the south shore of the St Lawrence and around the Gaspe to the other meritime provinces including Newfoundland. Once we were back into Ontario we took a northerly route back via the Yellowhead and Jasper. One heck of a good trip and the Dodge ran flawlessly, except for the daylight running light module never a moment of concern.
