Is this a record?

I paid $350 for a 1500 ga sepic tank last summer, install was free(my hole). You did good on your well, a buddy of mine in WA went 780 ft for a dry hole. First 6 feet was soil after that it was soild granite until they gave up. Lucky for him the dowser who located the spot ate half the cost. I guess that answers your question about whether dowseing works.

On the ranch I used to run in CA our well problem was that we kept hitting natural gas, even though there was water it would airlock the pumps and was useless.

I also had a well drilled just last fall. Its was 140 feet is all and the water is great. The driller insisted on using a Water Witch. I watch this Witch work and I was flabbergassed(sp) at how he worked. He even prodicted the depth and was right on the money. And best of all was his payment = a cold case of Paps Blue Ribbon.

I've seen four dousers(witchers) in my life. The first one I met when I was only 12. He doused a well in a area where the property owner was told water was almost non-existent. Hit it at 35' and was a 10 gal per minute well. He had the old fashoined forked stick and showed me how to hold it. It really pulled when over the water!I could never remember exactly how to hold it or what kind of wood it was.

The next time a guy who bought a drilling truck who thought he was a witcher. He drilled two dry holes and then called a old timer in. This old boy caught a trail and told him to drill within fifty foot of his first dry hole. Water at 23' and you could'nt pump this sucker dry... .

Then the gal who did my well. She used copper pewter rods and then used the old stick to confirm. Everybody in the area says thats a good well compared to most up there.

I think their are a few crackpots out there, but there are a few who know what they are doing. Our driller said that they used to buy there witcher a wine cooler for every good well. Until they said she was always to drunk to douse for them!

Eric, an old friend of mine lives at the base of Mt. Si in North Bend, WA on five acres. When he had a well drilled there (several years before I had mine drilled), they ran into (you guessed it) tons of solid granite!  It seems they could only drill so far, then would have to extract the drilling equipment, blast and restart drilling again. This process was repeated many times over. I forgot what he said it cost him although I remember da*n near dropping over dead when he told me. Whoa! One thing though, he had absolutely awesome tasting water!

I just spoke with my Dad today. It was 120 ft, and it was $1200. 00 (dont know how I remembered that??) Over 1/2 was through rock. He said it was $12. 00 a foot with or w/o a (6") casing, and he threw in the last few feet. Turned out to be a 15 GPM well, excellent tasting very cold water. This was over 25 years ago in St Lawrence county NY, I'm sure it would be more now.

Eric
