Weak front springs

91 Dodge 3/4T 4x4, reg cab long box. Front springs bottomed out. I replaced them with stock set, and now they have bottomed out. These springs are just too weak. I do a lot of plowing, and have my Western plow on all winter. This is a bit of extra weight granted.

Has anyone added extra leafs, heavier thickness leafs, coil spring boosters, or whatever helps.

Unfortunately, without going to a custom set of springs, everything will be borderline with the Cummins in the engine bay. Adding the extra weight of the plow will kill them quick.



You essentially have 2 choices: heavier springs that will handle the weight and ride like a lumber wagon without the plow, or, a set of springs that ride decent then air bags to handle the load.



The latter is the best solution I have seen so far but also the most expensive.





The third option would be an Oshkosh for the plowing duties. :-laf :-laf

I put the rough country helper springs on mine after new factory springs bottomed out for about 75 bucks I think it was worth it. It lifted the front about 2" or so truck sits level so thats all I wanted. Ride quality is about the same as before.

Skyjacker makes springs specifically for the Cummins trucks, I put a set on the front of my 1990 and three years later they had sagged only half an inch. On the Skyjacker website springs with a "C" in the part number are for Cummins.

I have Skyjacker 2 1/2"s which have improved the ride a lot (I don't wince as I go into pot holes any more). I bought air shocks (about $60 on E-bay, a little cheaper than a K air ride system) for the front which I hope will help prevent the plow sag. We will see if it works at the end of next winter.

One last thouhgt, eventhough it can be a major PIA taking the plow off as much as you can I think would help.

My son put Bilsteins on his 94 in the fall... . now you can barely see the front move when he lifts the plow.

I have the Skyjacker 2 1/2" on my 92 and have plowed snow every winter for the last 13 yrs. I have an 8' Diamond plow of the old style where the plow frame stays attached to the truck. If the Skyjackers have sagged at all I haven't noticed it. The truck rides better too. One of the early models-90 or91 came thru with air shocks on the front if you had the snow-plow package.

Skyjacker Lift Kits

Skyjacker has extensive list of kits available for cummins equipped trucks. I have ordered a 2. 5"lift kit for front end with new shocks.
