I am looking for a way to warm up engine faster and keep in the warmth longer as we go into winter.

I have always had a winter cover on my trucks, but I have not found any that I like for my 97 Dodge. Any one out there have a suggestion?

Thanks for doing the reply Illflem!

For those with bad eyesight on the small pics in the classified, here is a bigger pic

ditto what Bill said. Eric produces top quality grill blocks for a VERY fair price.

I also run fanless which combined with cold fronts makes a big difference. The Espar doesn' hurt either.

PS

Mundgyver: Today at work, I talked about one of our contracts as Portland, Or-gun. I got a strange look. Reminded me I was back in the land of Or-e-Gone.

Haven't heard the Or-e-Gone in a long time. I just figured that the Ore-gun kinda runs hand in hand with my concealed weapons permit:D

Thanks for all the Good replies guys! Glad you like them

to also all of the guys that bought these, thanks very much and Enjoy!

The beauty of my system is that it helps it warm up but air still goes through the intercooler for towing and such. these can be on up to 65 degrees outside so I install in the fall then off in the spring.

A cardboard or Reflectix inbetween the radiator block too much air... . even if you do have a % of opening, it is still not productive.

Also unless the cardboard has the open space right in the center of the fan hub it can cause a blade to break off causing major damage.

I have Lund's stainless steel solid grill inserts. Look great, easy to install each winter. Makes warming up much faster. I usually remove them when temps get above 35.

Warm up

I have a 03 and was wondering what i could get to heat the truck up faster. It takes about 8 to 10 miles of 60 mph to get the truck heat up to normal. Thanks for the post Bill

If you don't want believe me that's your problem, seen it happen several times.

It won't happen with plastic fans but with metal fans every time a blade passes though the area where air flows it flexes a little due to the increased air flow/load.

I think most of us know what happens when you bend a piece of steel back and forth repeatedly. This only happens if the cardboard is right up against the coolers. If it is on the grill the airflow has a chance to equalize before it reaches the fan.

With the hole in the cardboard in the center the load on the blades is constant, no flexing back and forth.

If a person has been running cardboard with an off center opening for any length of time it is well worth it to remove the fan and inspect for cracks before it's too late.

I know a guy in Alberta who had a broken off blade take out his radiator, intercooler, A/C condenser and AT cooler 80 miles from the closest paved road. The repair was several thousand dollars.

I believe you ifflem, I have seen weird things happen to plane props before with uneven air flows, it really screw them up. Same principal would apply here I would think

Eric, I have a Gettmann front now and its getting worn. I've been looking for a new one. The one I have now has a hole for fan, and fits between intercooler and radiator. It appears yours doesn't have a relief for fan and fits on outside (that I like as it appears easier to put on, no opening hood). Can yours be used without removing fan, per Bills statement on fan problems? I haven't seen any threads on any problems with yours, and just looking for comfort zone.

Excellent post Illflem. I ran a piece of cardboard for 1 winter with the hole slightly off-center so I've suddenly decided to go fan-less this winter and thoroughly inspect it before it goes back on. :)

FMJ,

My fronts ALLOW air to go through the intercooler and have NO ill affects on the fan.

My fronts bolt on through the honeycomb so you do have to open the hood but it only takes 10 minutes.

No fiddling with the fan is needed. This does help it warm up faster, keep warmer when like at a store or whatever, and lets you drive in weather up to 65 deg. outside without taking it off.

I have had mine on for 3 years (during the winter) and have had no problems. Conversly, I have had no ill reports from my customers for 3 yrs now.

in either 65 degree weather or near 0 deg. , my temperature gauge shows 185-190.

Thanks to all the interest ..... just looked outside right now and it is 17 deg and snowing:(

Winterfronts

I have Eric B`s on my 95. Luv `em!!!! At 75 mph, right at 2K RPM, I`m running dead on 190 degrees. In town, I only drive 3-4 miles to work each way. They have raised the temp on my daily drive from no gauge movement to about 140, or plenty to defrost the windows. Thanks to EB for a good product at a VERY low price. Got mine at a bomb party in October, put them on the next day. Only change I`m thinking about is Velcro to speed up the RNR. DK. Oo.

U got my vote Illflem IM the prime example... ... . "Wow. I just hate losing fan blades all the time, and it is so unproductive"... LMAO LMAO..... people just wont listen..... to a guy that probably1000% smarter... ... . Good job Bill you helped me countless times... . sorry for the bashing guys its just kinda p***es me of coming from a newb... ...
