Looking for suggestions/feedback on personal web sites used to post photos and travel logs. Operating systems OSX and Windows XP.

We thought it would be cool to post our pictures and design a simple website while traveling.

Knowing that there are a few choices and that many here have a web page, we are hoping for some advice on which ones are easy to work with.

My wife is photog, and our files could be heavy, so, a site that had an ability to handle lotsa stuff would be good.

Any suggestions?

I use powweb.com ($7. 77 / month) for my web hosting service and flickr ($25 / year) for picture hosting. See link in sig for website details.

Buy a domain with Godaddy.com and let them host it. I have several there. They seem fast, give you loads of space, you can pick Windows or Unix hosting, comes with email for your domain, etc, etc. I think it starts at around $3. 50 per month.

I have a . mac account that I got when I bought my Mac about a year ago,and along with the iWeb software it couldn't be easier for me. I am not too tech savvy, but the iWeb makes it easy, and fast. I would however like to have a simple blah,blah,blah.com website name instead of the . mac site name which is impossible for me to remember, but that can be fixed with a godaddy account or similar. I have not bothered to do that yet though as I only have a simple website with pics of my kids, and my cars/trucks.

I have my own site hosted on the Time Warner (Road Runner) space they allow you. It's pretty horrible that they only give you 5mb to work with, so I've had to host my images on another site.

Some web searching led me to blogger.com. I don't write a blog, I simply use it to host my photos. The reason I use it is because it allows up to 8mb per photo, it's free, and it's FAST. Here's a link to my photos (NOT dialup friendly!):

http://rcbattelle.blogspot.com/

Notice there's no text - it's just photos I'm storing. My real website is here:

Why blogger instead of Webshots or Photobucket or one of the myriad other available sites? 2 reasons. First, I think blogger is faster, and since I'm just linking to it from my personal site speed is important to me.

Second, there's a theory that although Blogger says there's a 300mb limit on blogs it might be a bluff. There may not be any limit to how much stuff you can put out there, but they tell you it's 300mb just to keep people from going nuts. I may find out, because most of the photos I post are larger than 2 mb.

Eventually, however, I will need to do what Klenger does - get a web hosting service. I'm just too cheap to do it right now.

Thanks Ryan,

For some reason I had a mental image of someone much older. You and your wife look like kids! No disrespect intended.

I get that all the time. I must be typing at a 60-year-old level. I'm only 29, and my wife is only 28.

Which means either I sound "wise", or I sound senile. I'd prefer not to know which. :-laf

More like disciplined thinking and manners not so common with this generation.

Thanks again for the info,

Greg
