Allison Md3060 conversion to mecahnical DT466

Nick, I showed my son your 91, big brother to his 90 Dakota. He is ready to sell his Ford he just bought :D
I had to let him down and tell him it's not for sale.
While he was home on leave we put a windshield in the Dakota and sprayed in a bed liner. Now He's talking about ditching the anemic 3.9 for a V8 in the future. I told him an oil burner would be a better fit

Thanks JR, it is the best dang truck...

The AC system is all original, never been touched by anyone but me, and I am not an AC guy. Years ago, I converted to R134, no vac down, just drained the R12 and filled with 134. After the paint job, I tuned it up with a vacuum line repair and a can of 134. 39 degrees out of the drivers vent. Such a simple truck to work on.

We converted the Dakota to 134 when we got it back on the road 3ish years ago. It's been a little anemic lately. The compressor sounds angry when it engages so it's probably due for a replacement. Luckily it's not been hot this summer for the most part and window A/C has been doing just fine. It doesn't see many miles anyhow, just enough to keep the wheels round and the battery charged up.

Replaced the clutch on the '01 again. About 160k on this one. It didn't need one. It was getting hard to shift, into gear, at a stop. Like the pilot bearing was dragging or the input shaft/clutch splines were dirty and not releasing off the flywheel. It also was getting real bad about bucking on a heavy launch or in reverse. The splines were dry/contaminated with lining dust and the pilot bearing was dry but in good shape. Throwout bearing was in good shape.

Turns out, the transmission mount was broken, probably causing most of the bucking. Went ahead and replaced the rear main again, it was wet. We went with a new oem/Luk flywheel and the same Sachs HD clutch. The lining was only worn .007"

I have got to learn to say no:) Customer brings me this skid steer grader with a lost spindle bearing, plus the spindle shaft is bent. Not sure what kind of a wreck he had but it even buckled the main frame at the skid steer adapter. Not working on that, it will stay as is. I won't get into the quality of this thing...The tapered bottom bearing that failed is not even protected by a seal, just exposed to all the elements of a dirt machine, not one grease jerk anywhere:eek:

Using my trailer ramps for a prying brace on the spindle fork, I slid a 10' 1.250" piece of well pipe over the bent shaft and went to prying on it. Managed to straighten it. I was afraid it would snap off, so it took a long time of prying and checking. The bearing was available overnight from O'Riley, the metric bolt at ACE and a 16mm tap from Napa. The cause of the damage was the bolt backed off and damaged it, the threaded hole in the spindle and allowed the tapered bearing to break/fall apart. It even dis-beaded the tire and filled it full of dirt, so I was allowed to get low on air.

@NIsaacs, you're a "gluten" for "punishment"! I've had good luck doing the same with a "shop press". Mine is a square of 1/4" wall steel tube with "u" channel ends. Bottle jack of the right size. Have used my 20 ton with it, but mostly my 12 ton. Easy to transport to where I need it! :D

I am fit to be tied and so exhausted I can hardly work the keyboard, I have no luck at all. Ordered a set of front tires for my JD, they had a lot of tread but were cracked real bad, to the point it was stupid to put air in them when they get low.

Tire size is 27x8.50x15. First one went on plumb normal but could not get the second one on, not even the first side. I kept thinking it was me, just old and weak, so I was cussing myself out. Turns out, it was a 27x8.50x14 grrr. At least I felt better about myself:D

Not exactly a turf tire but close enough. Also, not impressed with the date code, 2218.

I just saw a news clip where 2 guys attempted to steal a modern Charger, caught on surveillance. They were smart enough to circumvent the security system and gain access to the car, but realized it was a standard and proceeded to abort mission

I think it's a great thing knowing how to drive a manual transmission! Opens up doors to vehicles that you might otherwise walk away from. I learned on an International 1 ton flat bed, with a trailer attached! Was told that there was no better time to figure them both out at the same time. Glad I was able to figure it out!

Last class reunion I kept telling my wife I have to leave NOW as I promised to pick up a classmate at a certain time. I finally said bye bye.

After being at the event for a while I looked towards the gate opening and it was my wife dressed to the nines!!!

I did a double take and asked her how she got here as I knew her Tahoe was down and the only other rig was my 98 5 speed. She said “you think I was going to let you be around all these Cougars” ? Then she said she drove the truck even tho it had been several years since she had driven my VW PU 5sp. She learned sticks on tractors and field trucks as she was a farmers daughter.

Women can do what they need to do as my wife proved!!!

Replaced the starter on my Bobcat loader. My original intent was to just replace the starter drive. On cold days it would not lock in, warm days it worked fine. I didn't have any luck local, so I priced a recon starter, $400, special order. They are obsolete, standard Delco MT27/28 w/10 tooth drive.

New aftermarket gear drive starters are available, so I went with that. Online drive was $60 delivered, new starter was $190 delivered. They are smaller and lighter, so install would be easier. It was 3 hrs to remove that heavy sucker and 2 hrs to install, the smaller/lighter version. Works good.

Just replaced my old Generac standby generator with a new Duro Max 5225 watt surge, 4275 watt steady, on propane. I wanted propane and electric start.

Last month was cold here and we had two outages. One 8 hr, during the night. Had a real rough time getting the old sucker started. 10 hp and turning the generator is tough with a rope start, in the dark. Then 3 days later a 13 hr outage.

Seems to be a quality unit. They claim they are the only small portable generator manufacturer to use 100% copper windings. Propane does start slow but with electric start, it is a non issue. It takes a while to purge the air out of the propane line.

I did a heap of research and settled on this one. I wanted one big enough to get the minimum job done but small enough to be affordable and economical to operate. They claim 8 hr run time at 50% with a 20# bottle. 5 year warranty.
