"Weigh as you go"

well while moving my GN from Cali to AZ i passed through blythe... and needless to say the weigh as you go told me to go to the scales. i didnt, and a person with some common sense could tell i was not commercial. should i fear a ticket in the mail?

I had that happen to me once in Washington state with my 5vr in tow. The sign reads "commercial" vehicles so I just kept going. Probably nothing to fear. Now when I come across that place, I just change lanes!

Scales on (in) the highway... . Usually the slow lane before a weigh station... .

No, if they wanted you they would have chased you down. They either figured you were private/non-commercial, didn't see you, or were busy and didn't care enough to bother or didn't have an officer free to chase you.

i would have gotten out of the lanes if i could have, problem is there are only 2 lanes and they both have it...



oh well.



now i have to tell my folks to keep an eye out for the ticket i WILL get in the mail for running a red light... .



i wasnt towing and the light had cycled 3 times without giving me a green. it was safe as there was no trafic.

I've had that happen before. When it does, I make a "right on red after stop" which is legal in TX and go around the next block or make a U-turn if possible, but be careful with the U's, there are illegal on some streets.

GWBourne - I went though Blythe this morning and I think I know what happened. I noticed that all commercial truck traffic was supposed to stay in right hand lane and everyone else was to stay in the left lane. Once in your correct lane not supposed to change lanes. I am assumi ng you was by accident in the right hand lane. Also all scales I am aware of in CA. say commercial only no pickups in the scales; I looke when over to CA this week. I did not see this sign at the Blythe scale but am sure it is the same there. Bottom line NOT TO WORRY!!!! Hope this helps

ehh, even if i get a notice ill fight it and win, they cnat prove my weight and its a VERY ROUGH estimate. on thsi particular trip i was forced in the right lane. also i THINK both lanes weigh, but can not recal.

I travel all over the country and have never seen this. Are you talking about the pre-pass? Trucks with this can pass the scales, trucks without have to hit the scales.

Not to hi-jack this thread, but I have Texas driving question and I see that you are in Texas. I spent last weekend in Houston at the Minute Maid Classic baseball tournement. While driving around downtown Houston, I had several occasions where I was in the left lane of a one-way street wanting to turn left onto another one-way street. In Texas is it legal to make that turn on a red light. I witnessed several times where drivers waited for the light to turn green, and others did make the turn on the red light.

Don't know about TX, but in VA you can turn left on red IF you are turning from a one-way street onto another one-way street. If either are two-way, you need to wait for a green. Right turn on red is legal for either (provided your turn doesn't take you down the wrong way :-laf ).

Yes what is being talked about is about the pre-pass with a commercial lane only being the right hand lane. If you are not commercial pre-pass you have to pull in for weighing. As I recall there a two lanes for weighing once you pull in to scales and one lane for permits. At least this is the case for Blythe. I am not aware of being able to be weighed in the actual lanes of travel but maybe I am wrong. What you have in Blythe is a transponder in the truck that identifies you as pre-pass and is picked up when you travel under what looks like a street light hanging over the right hand lane. That is why only commercial traffic is supposed to be in the right hand lane those pre-pass continue on and not pull in for weighing. I suppose if anything passes down that lane will get flashed to pull in for weighing because you don't have the transponder. I am guessing this is what happened to GWBourne. Worst I suppose is a ticket for not following the signs, but I really doubt that will happen.

weigh in motion are scales embedded in the interstate main lanes they are rough guide to truck weight and parameters that they wish to look for. over 80k over 26k over 10k etc.



LA uses them and seem to be set at the above numbers or maybe it is a per axle that trips it. Asked and told by official that I was pretty close with a slight wink on my guesses also rental trucks as they often don't have proper paperwork ie original registration paperwork, not copies
