Does anyone know how heavy a spare tire the cable hanger on a '99 2500 can support? I have Rickson's on my truck, including the spare, and I think they weigh about 125 lbs each. I'd sure hate to have the cable break and see all that rubber and metal bouncing down the highway behind me! :--) :{

D,

I actually don't know the rated capacity of the cable hanger.....

But if you know the diameter of the cable... ... . Homer @ Home Depot will give you a pretty good idea.

Get yourself one of those spare tire locks that goes around the winch drive bar. It'll hold up the spare if the cable breaks, AND your expensive Rickson spare won't dissapear some night.

I have been told by my tire guy that he has seen a few broken spare tire winch cables and all that was on them were the stock tires.

With this in mind I would suspect that they designed pretty much for what the stock wheels and tires weigh.

I have a cable around mine. Not only will it keep it from dragging if the cable breaks *BUT* it also keeps the neighborhood kids from stealing my spare. My brother got his ripped off.
