Getting ready for Prodigy hook up?

ALJ)O trailers

Please inform me here I have just purchased a 26 foot travel trailer It came with the weight dist hitch and sway control. I have been around these hitches a few times but my question is this how do you load the trunnions. I have seen this done with a friends van but I do not think he knew what he was doing. I have searched for this info with no luck. see my sig below this unit doesnt even begin to load my suspension as it is. thanks for the help you can give me. Patrick

I used to install weight distribution hitches and I'm not sure what you mean by;

how do you load the trunnions.

Are you trying to lock the spring bars into the hitch head or secure the spring bar chain links into the pads mounted on the trailer frame?

Or something else?

Alan

I was where you are about 5yrs ago. There is very little info about this. Trialer Life Mag had a real good articial about 2yrs ago. You might be able to get a copy from them. Anyway the way to set it up is> 1. Adjust you the ball about 10 degrees b back towards your trailer. 2 . After you have hooked up your trailer put the heavy rods into your hitch. 3. They shoud be pointing down at about 25 degrees. 4. Using the pipe that hopefully you have , hook the chain to the bracket that is attached to the frame. 5. Now with the bar turn the bars up until level. You will have to figure out which link in the chain to use. After you have done all this the two bars should be LEVEL with the road. Hope this helped Jim

Once you have it set-up initially, here's an easy way to hook and unhook the bars. After you hook up to the ball (and lock it down), jack the trailer back up a little to take some of the weight off the truck. This will make hooking the bars up much easier. You won't even need to use the pipe for leverage when less weight is on the ball. After the bars are hooked up, you just crank up the jack the rest of the way. Unhook the same way.

Thanks to every one that responded. I knew I would get a proper answer from this tdr forum. got to love the value you have here huh. Thanks for the help and tips. I hope to return the same one day Best regards Patrick:D
