I'm looking for a new ball mount with 5" drop and weight distributing spring cups.
My old straight up drawtite is not low enough to tow my trailer. All help appreciated.

Hi Jims,

I had to order my new drop hitch from my local RV dealer. My old weight distro hitch did not drop enough also. This new hitch (I'm still waiting after 1 week) will allow me to drop it 6" if I need it (which I do).

Setting me back about $140 or so. I think it is from Reese.

Let me know if you want/need the part number.

Hal

Hal, when you get time could you please post the Reese part number for the weight distributing hitch as I'm also interested however, I would like to have the one that fits my Reese Titan V, 2. 5" hitch box without the use of the 2. 5" to 2" adaptor.

Thanks Hal,
I found it on reese's web site.

Something that you may consider doing is moving the ball hitch on the trailer. If you need a six inch drop I bet that the hitch is welded on the bottom of the trailers frame. You can cut it off and weld it to the top of the frame and pick up about six inch. Hope I didnt confuse you.

John,

Sorry it took so long, I was waiting for the hitch to arrive.

The hitch is a DrawTite # 3344. Just picked it up about 30 minutes ago. I'll post another note letting you know if it is long enough.

The thing works! The overall drop from the bottom of the receiver tube to the bottom of the drop is about 14". According to all my measurements calculations, I should be about to tow my TT level, and still be able to drop it another 1. 25".

According to my RV mechanic, he says there is a "standard" hitch height on all travel trailers, or at least among the 22' plus sizes. I forgot what it is, but something like 22", 24" or 27"???

If mine TT is "standard" and so is yours, this drop mount for the weight distro hitches should work for you.

Chech out Camping world for a drop hitch bar. I got one (REESE) from them, about $119, if your not a member. You shouldn't have to change the trunion bars. It has a 6 inch drop. I still had to put mine all the way to the bottom. I have a 26' prowler camper. I have the High porfmance weight distributing Reese system from Camping world.

Hi Jims,

Yes, everything bolted on from the old drop bar to the new one. My Weight Distribution hitch has everyone (ball mount plate, torsion bar recepticles, sway bar ball) on one piece. So when I adjust the ball height, everything else is also aligned.

I've forgotten what the "standard" ball height is supposed to be for all our TTs (somewhere between 22" and 27" I think), but assuming that my TT is of standard height, if yours is also, then it should work for you.

Question I have is - Can a Reese weight distribution head fit on a Draw-Tite draw bar?

BTW - It use to be that standard ball height was 18" to 24". My TT is getting an axle flip within a week or 2 then I should be able to go with a 4"-6" drop and be okay.

I tink I have the same trailer as RandZ. A Terry 26H with a 14' slide. I too had to use the last settings on my Reese drop hitch. You might have to fiddle with the number of steel washers that determine the angle of the bars. It would be interesting, for me anyway, to open a thread about adjusting the hitch and bar angle. I just had some warranty work done to my trailer and when I hooked up the guy was amazed at the amount of pressure I put on the bars. In fact I had to get a longer rod than the one that came with the trailer to get the chains on the fasteners. He said some guys come in and are able to connect the chains without any bar to assist. I have to raise the trailer 6" above level just to get the chains on the tab - then it takes a 12" bar to move them up.
