After I found out that two of my stock steel wheels were bent(I even took them to a different tire dealer and had them give me a second opinion), I switched to aftermarket ones... I don't even normally haul heavy but on occasion have spent a little time on rough roads.



My opinion is the stock steel are not very strong. They are fine for most over-the-road applications but beware of potholes or anything larger than a small rabbit or you'll have bent ones...
 
The 98 steel wheels would have to be rated at a minimum of 3042 lbs. The rear GAWR on my 2500 is 6084 lbs. The stock tires were rated at 3042 lbs each so that's where the 6084 came from. Therefore the wheels would have to be rated at least that (possibly exactly that).
 
OK, I just went out in the RV garage and pulled one of my factory 2001. 5 Aluminium wheels (you know, the ones with the Michelin 265x75x16's rated at 3415lbs Max single) out from under the back of the 5er and looked at it. It has a DC part number, however it does not include a weight rating. FYI the rear axle and springs are both rate at 6500lbs on my 2500 4x4 diesel. So if the truck came from the factory with 265x75x16, why does the door jam sticker say 6084lbs of the rear axle rating (2x times the 3042lb rating of the basic 245x75x16 tires) and not 6500lbs???? And why did they not up the GVWR to 9200 like the Chebby??? SNOKING
