I'm getting a weird radio noise on the AM dial (stock am-fm radio w/ cas. tape) when my turn signals are blinking. Sorta sounds like a drunken mouse belching into a saxophone, in time with the turn signals. It also seems like my AM doesn't pick up stations like other people's AM radios do. I'm sure there must be a fix for this. Anybody know what it is? Antenna seems fine.

Robert,

Even though the antenna seems fine, you may find that you have a poor ground return on the coax cable. There are two areas of concern. First, there is a connector which ties two pieces of your antenna together. It is located just behind the glove box. A poor connection here will cause the problem you describe. Second, (and the one which I had) was a poor connection between the antenna base and the metal area it mounts to. Try loosening the antenna nut at the base of the antenna. Then lift the antenna out of it's mount, reach in, behind the mounting hole and clean the area with sand paper or crocus cloth. and reinstall the antenna.

I looked a long time for this problem and was able to find it by verifying a higher than normal resistance between the antenna at the radio and ground. Even though it was only about 2 ohms, it was a problem.

Mine works fine now, no whistle.

Roger

Thanks Roger--that sounds pretty thorough, I'll give it a try.

Scot... anything is possible in my life right now... :-laf

Robert,

It may be feedback from that ATS transmission. :-laf

I did what Roger said and it fixed mine. It was also the prime opportunity to paint that plastic space on my antennae that had turned an ugly gray/white color. Just don't drop the antennae base down in the fender.

Scott

Anything except that! Ha!

Heck it might be the old ATS--I haven't let it whup any F-150 gassers W/ flowmaster decals in a long time. But I did feed it a big fat Range Rover just yesterday. :)

Hey Scott, thanks... I sorta got used to the antenna base being all silvery, it'll be nice to have it black again.
