2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Weird headlight problem

Blue dash light stays on in either dimmer switch position. In one position the low beams are dim. In the other position, the low beams are bright. The hign beams don't come on in either position!

Any ideas?

Try swapping out relays in the pdc under the hood

You should be able to swap the relay out with another one in the pdc before you go buy one.

Not sure if the 96's are the same but my '01 had an underated Multifunction (dimmer) switch. The contacts melted causing the high beams to stick in the 'on' position.

My truck does the same thing since putting in sport lights.

To get them off high beam, I push in the light knob to off for a second. Viola, low beams.





Edit; After reading the OP better... . not exactly the same as my problem. My truck goes to high beam.

Last time I saw soething similar somebody had put the wrong bulbs in it.

..... or they had aftermarket lights... like from Ebay... . The wiring is incorrect, and the ground is through the low beam circuit.

Now THAT makes sense. And if I didn't have stock bulbs in the original wiring harness, that's what I'd expect to find.

Then it is either your multi-function switch or a bad ground somewhere.
