My truck has been exhibiting an unusual intermittent hesitation problem for the past several months or so. Sometimes when I coast to a turn or grade and then apply light throttle w/o coming to a stop, nothing happen till I mash the peddle down and then the truck accelerates like heck. FP is fine (11-12psi) when this happens, so I don't think that is the problem. I have a DD (Edge) Comp box which is usually set on 1-2. Any suggestion on where to start to solve this problem?

TIA

Tom

tmacc, Mine is starting to do the same and sometimes at a stop then a quick 1/4 throttle stab I get a hesitation.

I have not taken time to look into it yet but I will start with the APPS voltage.

BTW, I have the comp and dd II set on 2-2 and 15-16 lbs pressure.

Hesitation

Mine did the same thing with the edge comp box installed. Now that i have a TST comp box it doesn't do it. Just an idea. Disconnect the box and try it to see if it helps out.

Thanks for the replies. I suspected the Comp too. I forgot to mention that it's been throwing 1693 codes too, which are an indication that something is hinky w/ the ECM. Makes sense if the Comp is on the fritz.

My suggestions:

* See if you can borrow another Comp from someone else, try it in your truck. That will tell you right away if yours is DOA.

* Check all your intercooler boots for leaks, looseness, splitting...

* If you have a wastegate or a boost elbow, check them. I had my adjustable boost elbow go out and at 18 PSI, my wastegate dumped all my boost and it felt like the truck just shut off.

Well, Tom I did you one better. I called Edge and spoke to Arron and they are sending me a new one to exchange for the current one. Very nice folks, no hassle what so ever. I did have to give them a CC # which I didn't have a problem w/. They are definately a vendor that stands behind their product. Gauges show everything else is normal, except the darn transmission temp thermocoupler needs replacing again. Thanks for the suggestions. BTW the wastegate has been turnbuckled for over a year. Still on the stock hy35 at this point.

I agree about Aaron and Edge Products. I at first thought my Comp had died, so I called and talked with Aaron, described my symptoms, etc. He sent me a brand new Comp, I tried it, no dice, so I sent it back to him. But like you said, first rate customer service :D

tmacc.....

If you haven't "re-set" your TPS/APPS (drives me nuts these have interchangeable names) you might try.

My version... . other's may say differently.

Disconnect the neg. battery cables overnight... . some will say that's way too long, but you might also get rid of the 1693 code, as well.

Hook the cables back up.

Turn the ignition to "on" (don't start)

SLOWLY, press the accelerator pedal clear to the floor and SLOWLY let it come back up. Do this three times, and then start and drive the truck as normal.

I had some episodes like you describe a few thousand miles ago, and never did pin it down for certain because once I started to trouble-shoot, including totally disconnecting my Comp. for a whole week, I could never get the truck to again replicate the "hesitation/deadspot" issue. I've still got three codes, and have had the truck scanned at least 8 times and they still come back. I've given up and am just gonna drive the thing until it breaks or the symptoms re-appear and become consistent.

24v-dsl,

Your reply couldn't have been timed better. I feel like an idiot, because I now realize I've been driving the truck around in limp mode, I think. Boost would not go over about 12psi. I usually drive in heavy traffic and I don't hot rod the thing around, but something Tomgolden said may me check yesterday and  ... . Doah!!! What the ... ... ... . ? I know you all are thinking, " He didn't realize that it was in limp mode?", but It seemed to have fairly normal power. A little laggy, but I wrote that off to the new DTT TC& VB that was installed a week and a half ago. Anyway, the neg. battery cables are off as I write this and we'll see what happens. I still think the Comp has a glitch in it. I'll keep you posted. Thanks for the tip on resetting the TPS.
