For the last month or so my truck has been idling weird. Really noticed it tonight. I had a roller cam in my old '60 Corvette, and it idled fast and un even almost like it was missing on one cylinder This is similar. I'm also getting a fluctuation in my voltage meter that seems to keep time with the uneven idle . This is my second motor in this truck. The old first gen motor purred at idle, this p-pump conversion has always been rougher at idle. I have had the head off several times. If I was to ding an injector nozzle slightly, could that cause this. Could the uneven idle cause the voltage meter to bounce? I checked the voltage at idle with a meter and it is fluctuating just like the meter in the dash. I installed a new voltage regulator and the needle still bounces around. Would appreciate any suggestions.

You should always remove the injector before pulling the head to prevent that of happening. A nozzle not fireing properly will cause a hit and miss idle. BTW stomp blew his head gasket last night at the track. He was getting ready to race a viper when he found coolant leaking out from under his truck.

Disconnect the two relays that control the intake heaters. It sounds like they could be cycling which would cause the voltmeter to fluctuate.

That could cause a change in idle speed as well.

Worth a try.

If the idle is too low it can do that. If you have an automatic the idle should be 750 to 800 RPM in gear with the AC on. A manual should be 750 with the AC on.
