Not so weird things:

A young woman. Brass pole optional. :D For some reason, women with a belly ring smell better.

A well marinated steak on the grill.

A forest after the rain.

Cedar/ tobacco shop smell.

A good cigar.

Gunpowder... any brand will do.

Hoppes, brings back memories from my childhood.

Woodchips.

Jack Daniels.

A good breakfast.

Weird things:

New tire smell.

OK, I give up. What's Hoppes #9 and what have I been missing out on?

My list:

Baking bread/cookies

A wood fire

Wood shop/construction site

Garlic

Onion

New leather

Acres of freshly turned soil

A successful harvest (beans, corn, wheat, etc)

A pot of chili or my pasta sauce simmering

Wait a second. . i thought these were "WEIRD THINGS that you like the smell of"... :p

of course everyone likes the smell of fresh baking bread and cookies and a lot of outdoorsy people like us love the smell of fire and nature... but WEIRD they are not ;)

as for weird. . I love the smell of:

clothes dryer exhaust... especially with downy sheets. . used to spend hours by the dryer vent when i was a kid

band-aids... when you first put them on. . it's like the 'ah, it's gonna stop bleeding now' smell... even though i usually just end up wrapping the knuckle-busters in a greasy paper towel instead

the smell of a hot exhaust being submerged in muddy water... very unique and the smell changes depending on the kind of environment you're in (swamp mud which has a nasty fishy smell, mountain mud which smells like pine needles, etc)

i'll think of more...

Yea, there's one I forgot.

I can ad the leather to my "not so weird" #1 choice, but we'll keep it PG rated. :p

Nitro solvent... . gun cleaner. It's the brand. Hoppes.

It comes in a yellow bottle. It has a smell you will never forget.

I'm told that it's been reformulated, but it still smells like I always remembered it.

Puppies

Sagebrush

The desert in general after a summer rain

Jet A exhaust from a Pratt&Whitney PT-6

Old Cockpits

Pine sawdust

Wine

My wifes hair.

Hoppe's #9 has been around for about a thousand years now I 'spose. I am instantly transported back to the farm every time I smell it. Cool, crisp fall days in the oak timber just over the hill. :)

It comes bottled in a little brown glass bottle with a yellow lid.

It's not nearly as effective as the new stuff, but the new stuff is just too "chemical" I guess.

Another great smell (I'll call it weird for the purposes of this thread) is the odor of the old two stroke oil fog early in the morning on a misty Minnesota lake. Again, the "old" stuff is great... . the new stuff just don't cut it.

I think those old outboards ran a 24:1 mix.

Ah, the good ol' days! :)
