just recently ive started to hear a weird niose coming from my turbo. it's hard to describe, but it sounds like a low dull roar. you can hear it when accelerating, but you can hear it alot more when in od and you go to accelrate. the noise is not always present, it will go away sometimes. any one ever head this, or know of a problem? im going to check shaft endplay and see if anything is abnormal. the turbo spools up fine, max boost is 32psi.

hmmmm....

well guys, me thinks my turbo is ending it's life. with this new noise, i was promptedto check the shaft. i found no apparent damage to the compressor itself,i checked endplay, there is no horizontal movement, but vertical movement is alittle bit more than what i would like to see. im going to run her untill something happens, or if by good fortune, a brown truck brings me a box that contains a new htb2 turbo!

Some up and down movement is OK. The oil fills the gap.

When I replaced the stock HX-35 with the 40, I had bit of a howl. At first, I only heard it after 25# boost. Did that a few times (30#+), then I almost always heard it. I checked the endplay, and where I had had none before the #10 went in, it was now out of spec. Only had a 30# gauge then and pegged it easily. Don't know how high it got. No blade to housing contact that I could feel. Had about 175k on it.

im hoping to install my 370 injectors soon. is this going to be too much for this turbo as far as boost is concerned? im already seeing 32psi with the plate all the way forward and stock injectors. i just don't want to break something untill i get some money for a new turbo.

The 370s will probably be way too much. I think the HX-35 is out of its efficiency range at, or above 35psi. Not sure what effect the 16 housing you have on there would be. Never ran a HX-35 with one.

I was pegging my 30# gauge with the #10 in stock position and bone stock turbo/ injectors. If I really want to get on it with what I have now (and still stock pos. on plate), I can hit 32# boost and 1250*pre-turbo. Even with the PDR HX-40. On your truck, I would expect 40#+ of boost and maybe excessive EGTs if you tow, depending on what you are hitting now. At minimum, you may what a hybrid HX-40/35W or a modified HX-40. Been very happy with the PDR turbo that I have on.

The 370s can add alot of fuel. I felt a bigger difference in power with the 370s than the plate alone. If I had slid the plate, it might have about the same effect as the injectors did. I like where everything is set at right now. Don't plan to add or mess with anything power-wise. For now, that is. ;) The HP bug may bite again. :-laf

With still having a stock transmission, I haven't had the nerve to hook up to a trailer yet, since the turbo or injectors went in. It pulled great before, anxious to see what it'll do now. Oo. :D
