Off Roading Heavy duty front end parts?

Hey guys...

Starting working on the truss over Thanksgiving, and looking for input.

Since I went with such heavy wall tubing, I decided to notch out around the pumpkin to gain an inch or so clearance the whole way across.

Question is, what rod should I use for welding the pumpking to the DOM? I'll be stick welding. I've got some Ni FeC1 rod for cast... is this good? Thoughts on Nirod? Nirod 55x, etc?
Is there any reason to fab a rear truss while I'm at it?

I tryed a few different rods on my first housing Sorry I don't remember what Ended up working the best. I think in the long run you would save time by removing the housing from the truck to do the work. Good luck and don't warp it ;)

The housings are cast, but they are not cast iron which is what nickle rod is predominantly for. Most axle housings are made of a tougher nodular iron. If it were me I'd use fresh 7018 for stick or ER70s-2 for wire.

Thanks for all the advice... ended up using some 3/32" 7018s and took it slow. Warmed the center section some, and let things cool off. All in all, it turned out really well.

I used 1 1/2" DOM 3/16" wall for the main tube, and 3/16" steel deck plate for boxing it in. I'm kinda likin the diamond tread plate look! :-laf
