This is the third time that my Weld Racing wheels have sprung a leak. I have the Typhoons in a 16. 5x9. 75. I know - get rid of the 16. 5's but that's a whole different problem.

I want to replace these with something that won't spring leaks all of the time. It's a PITA to walk out to your car and one tire is about 10-20lbs to low. It's never a leak in the tire - it's always a little pinhole leak in the rim at the weld.

Weld Racing only has a 1 year warranty on these but my opinion is that they are rated for over 3200lbs each and up to 44" tires. I only have 35"s at the moment.

Do I go up to the EVO series? I would like to replace them with something chromed and probably go up to 18x10's (or something reasonably close).

Decisions, decisions.

Opinions wanted.

I have the same wheels on my truck. One wheel already cracked, but they replaced it. What chapped my hide was I used the Dodge caps on the wheels, but Weld changed the centers on them, so my cap wouldn't fit on the new wheel. I had to buy Weld caps. I didn't want chrome, so I wound up dishing out almost $100. 00 between aluminum caps and nuts.

I'm curious where you sprung a leak. Mine was where the weld came together on the inside.

Loren,

That's exactly where my wheels have all sprung leaks. On the inside where both halves are welded together.

I already have the aluminum caps so that is not a problem for me.

But what is the deal? Are the Weld two piece wheels just crap or what?

Re: Weld's welds suck! (sure do!)

I went through 2 complete (2x5) sets of Weld rims before FourWheelParts gave me a new set of steel rims and a refund on the Weilds. I saw a "sales training" video from Weld that explained that Welds on Dodge RAM Diesels failed due to the increased weight. Poor design and cheep construction is more like the problem...

I had a set of Weld Typhoons on my 97 1500 ram. One of the wheels cracked and left me with a flat tire on the side of the highway. 4wheelparts did everything they could to not help me and give me a hard time, even though i bought the rims from them. Weld didn't help me either. Meanwhile, i'm riding around with a spare that's 3 inches shorter than my other tires. So I ended up buying another typhoon (not from 4wheelparts), since i still had three that were ok. I think weld makes the best looking wheels out there, but it's not worth it in my opinion. There so hard to keep clean, and the worst thing is they don't seem to be very reliable. BTW, mine cracked next to the valve stem. It wasn't on the any of the welded areas.

I wish all of the guy's that tow would read these post, imagin one of these wheels cracking and failing while towing a large load. This is just one of the many reasons I will not tow with a 2500-3500 SRW. I am very sorry to hear about your troubles, but I have heard many of simular stories from Weld customers. I also feel sorry for 4 Wheel Parts, they are caught in the middle and loos big time with this.
