I have a srw truck but put on the new Michelin AT2. I am very happy with this tire. I could only squeak 70k out of the oem Michelins. I could have got more but we have snow here. I too noticed that the rear tires with the lsd wore faster then the front. The inside tire would spin going around a corner. The edges of the front would wear but not the center. I had a tire depth gage that measured in 1/32" and it did confirm. I have nothing but great things to say about the at2. I figured they might be noisy but I can't hear them and they work great in the snow.

I wore out a set of Michelin's on my '02 2500 in 20,000 miles. I got almost 50K out of the stock Goodyear Wranglers on my '04 dually and they were completly shot. Replaced them with Toyo H/T's that I am happy with, so happy the when I bought the '08, they came with me!! (they only had a couple thousand on them).
 
As an RV transporter I use nothing but Michelins. They are good for 100 to 120k miles with occasional rotation. I have never had a tire problem, an uneven wear problem, or even a nail puncture. I have found them to be excellent on snow and ice when loaded. I have not tried them on ice or snow unloaded. They are about $200/tire at SAM's Club or COSTCO. That sounds like expenive until you do the arithmetic. I calculate about $0. 013 per mile. In words, that's about $1200 for 110,000 miles. Not bad in my book.

Are they the same size as stock?

I think the model is LTX A/S. They are basically a highway tread, perfectly quiet and smooth but aggressive enough for traction on snow or ice when loaded. Not an offroad tire for sure but an excellent compromise.



Same size -- LT235/80 R17 LRE. I have tried running several different pressures from 70 on fronts down to only 60 and 65, 60, or 55 on the rears. I have found that 60 front and rear works great and is easiest to maintain when SAM's Club tire techs do my rotations. Buying from SAM's (or Costco I assume) gives you nationwide hazard coverage and free rotate and balance also. I once had a free rotation done during an Alaska trip several years ago. Handy to have.

I just wanted to put in an input for ProComps AT's. They are load range E, and also an extreme weather rated tire. They are quiet on the freeway, and work great with the exception of deep mud, but fair well as most at's in mud and seem to clean well. The cons to this tire are they are hard to find (atleast in my county,) the compound is softer than michelins and decreases longevity. I still got 25k+ out of them with poor rotation schedule and living in a rural area on a twisty road with a heavy foot. I could not tell if the drop in MPG was from ULSD or from the switch to the new tires, but I"m sure it is a combination of both. After having to put the truck in 4wd to get out of a wet dirt parking lot, I decided not to go with michelins again, as the truck is also commonly used on ranch maintained roads, and needed a more aggressive A/T.
 
Harvey, if you get a chance, see which ones you are running... M/S's, or A/S's. I have the M/S's on mine.



I happened to be waiting for a prescription to be refilled this afternoon at SAM's Club and browsed around the store including the tire and battery area. The tires I am using are Michelin LTX M/S not A/S as I posted earlier. I think the LTX M/S is the only Michelin LT235/80 R17 LRE tire currently available.

Some will really disagree with this, but...

When I put my last set on, I went with Firestone Transforce AT's.

My first set were GY GSA's. I had to pull them off after 35,000 miles as all the sidewalls were cracking. Bought Generals (Ameritrac TR's) as I was cash strapped at the time. They wore out in 25,000 miles. I looked very seriously at the Michelins, but I wanted a more agressive tread than the LTX A/S's came with. That's why the Firestones. I went through a rough (snowy) winter in Colorado last year and got around fine with the Firestones. Never got stuck once, and really rarely had to use 4x4 (remember, this is a dually).

I have 92,000 on the truck now. Based on this, these tires will be down to the wear bars in about 60,000 miles. I paid under $1200 for six, mounted, balanced, and with a full road hazard warranty.

Juan, I got a friend with a 5. 4 powerstroke and he put those tires on it last spring. We took the truck from kc to UT (brought a car back on a trailer)ran into lots of bad weather and the tires worked great. Quiet also. I think they are a good tire.
