I've tried searching, haven't found anything for my situation. First, I don't tow anything other than a couple jet-ski's at the moment, but that could change in the coming years. I also don't have gauges, but should by late January (Isspro). 90% of my driving is city miles. I don't really want to do transmission upgrades. No aftermarket exhaust system will be added. Now, I've been leaning to the EZ, but have heard it's best for towing. What about injectors? DDI or II? This will MORE THAN LIKELY be my only engine upgrade. ANy help would be much appreciated!

I like the idea of having something that can be easily removed so that if you have to lend your truck to someone they aren't hot-rodding it all over town. The EZ and VA both fit this profile perfectly.

The injectors will need a boost module of some kind, wether it be DD, PS, or whatever to help with EGT's.

From what I've seen the boxes and injectors that you are talking about would give similar power and would be the limit for a stock transmission.

Good luck and BOMB on!

Go with the Edge EZ. Decent price, good HP increase.

The reason its good for towing is it doesn't increase EGT's too much like a comp box would.

If you really want to feel more connected, get transmission mods. DTT is great for this. You wouldn't believe how much more your engine seems to be connected to the drive wheels.

Contact Jeff Garmon in Southern Truck Parts Atlanta. I don't have his number handy but it's where the SETDR gets together about every other month. He has the Raptor. 80 hp instantly and a boatload of torque if you need it for towing. It's a souped up EZ with a better warranty. You can drive it as easy or as hard as you like and it's easy to install and remove. At 1800 rpms you'll think someone fired a JATO bottle. Go by. He'll let you test drive it with no obligations. He also has the EZ and will let you test drive it, too. Plus he can explain the pros and cons of injectors or anything else you want to do. He has a RAM dragster. Go by and let him take you for a spin in one of his 500 HP RAMS.

VA? What's that?

Ok, I'm new to all this too and would like to learn as much as possible. I've heard of all the products mentioned so far except the "VA". What is it and where can I find info on it?

TIA.

Biggest thing to watch out for with all of these IMHO is the warranty. These boxes are not cheap, so if you pay, say $500+ bucks and it craps out after a year, that's about $40 a month you are paying to have this horsepower. Some of the units have limited warranty and even others will replace lifetime. I personnally like the low end torque the VA gives but hate the one year warranty. And BTW, when the warranty is out, they will not repair your box under any conditions. Also, with the VA, unless they've changed, they plug into the rear of the pump or pump harness. That means breaking your seals on the 2001. 5 and newer. EZ and Rapton plug into the data port under the hood that is unused anyway.

I read these threads every day and have never heard of the Raptor. Could someone give me a Web page or telephone number? This box sounds interesting!!

Thanks,

Ron

I was just to their web site and it sounds interesting. I couldn't find a price, does anybody know. I will be calling them later. I will be doing some dyno testing on tuesday or wednesday next week and I think this would be something worth dynoing.

Thanks for the info!

I agree that the warranty on an accessory such as this (meaning one that will void the warranty on the truck) is important. I'd hate to add one, have it fail, and leave me without a warranty on the truck on top of having to replace it.

I realize I am my own warranty station once I add one of these deals. So, as far as "bang for the buck" in the $500-$600 range, which one of these provides the best overall service? It appears that the Raptor is an awesome product, but *may* affect reliability wherease the VA shouldn't. Am I right on this? Does the EZ affect reliability? Any comments on the TST? I realize I may be opening Pandora's box here.

Thanks again.

if you don't like it simply return for complete refund :)

Just talked to Piers (how do you spell his name anyway?). Great guy, can't say enough about how helpful he was in my decision. He assured me I'd have an Edge Comp in my hands Wednesday. Now the hard part is sleeping between now and then!

Oh, BTW in case anyone didn't know this... Piers mentioned that he is going to have his ISSPRO gauges on sale next month if all goes well between now and then with them.

These are mild fueling boxes that optimize timing more than anything. They don't prick the pump wire and don't cause pump problems like those that do prick the wire. VA, EZ, Raptor are all about the same as far as truck reliability. The warranty I'm suggesting you look at is the VA, EZ, and Raptor warranty. VA is one year, EZ is two, and Raptor is longer. Also, buy from a good dealer so if you have a problem, you don't have a hassle. And remember to remove the box in case you take your truck in for warranty work. Good luck.

Warranty on the Raptor is lifetime. It also adds 20 more HP and approximately 130 lbft over the VA or EZ. I will be doing some dyno testing this comeing week if every thing goes as planned.

Ron

Thanks, Ronsram. I know my dealer told me it was lifetime but didn't know if he did it because of my mental condition. You know, huffing diesel fumes can cause problems.
